University of California or Purdue?

I have been selected in UC Irvine and Purdue University.

But, I wanted to know which University is better for Undergraduate Major in Computer Engineering.

Some things I already know -

  1. Purdue has better ranking than Irvine.
  2. I will also do Minor in Computer Science and Purdue has better programs and rankings for the same.
  3. Irvine is in a better location. Since, it is in Silicon Valley, I believe chances of placement will be better. (I am quite unsure of this).
  4. I am an International Applicant from India (tropical country), so, climate-wise, Irvine will be more suitable.

Thanks.

UCI is not in Silcon valley (Northern California-San Jose area). It is about 7 hours south of Silicon valley in Orange county (Southern California) which has alot of tech companies in the area. I suggest you consult a map to get an idea of its location. Yes, the weather will be better at UCI and both schools will give you an excellent education. Is there a cost difference between the schools? If you are unable to visit, I suggest to look up campus tours on Utube to get an idea of what each campus can offer. What is most important to you ranking, campus fit, climate, internships/job placement? Since you are International, you will have issues in seeking employment in US. Good Luck on your decision.

UCI does not fund international students so I am assuming you realize that you will be full pay.

California is a very big state. @Gumbymom has told you that UCI is 7 hours by car to the Silicon Valley and she also mentioned that employment will be an issue. If you are assuming that you will be employed by American companies because you will attend an American university, you need to be prepared for returning to your country for your job.

US employers are mandated to employ US citizens and must state to the government that there are no American citizens that can fill their positions before even considering employing a foreign national. Also there is a wait and several thousands of dollars in fees that the company would have to pay; which means its not happening.

You are coming to the US for your education and you can’t expect more than that.
