University of California Schools A-G requirements, GPA, and honors credit? Help!!

<p>This is going to be lengthy so I apologize ahead of time but bear with me, please, please, please! Even an answer to one question would be a lot of help, or even some tips about applying! </p>

<p>I'm a junior in a high school in Florida and my top choices for college are primarily UC schools. But I'm really confused about their A-G requirements, Honors credit, and GPA, so I have a bunch of questions:</p>

<p>About A-G:
1. Do courses taken in 9th grade count towards A-G requirements? For example, one of the 2 history credits I need (World History), I took in 9th grade. As well as a variety of others I would need for A-G, such as Biology (Science req.), English I, Geometry (Math req.) and Spanish I (Foreign Lang. req.) And if classes taken in 9th grade don’t count, how do you fulfill the 4 years of English which is required?
2. Do you get to choose which classes you want to count for A-G? For example, they require you to have at least 2 years of lab science. But I have taken 4 courses that would fit the classification of a lab science- Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and AP Environmental Science. So do I choose which ones I want to be counted? Or do the UCs? And if the UCs choose, what do they base their choice on?</p>

<p>And I have a few more about the GPA and the honors credit the UC schools give:
1. As an out of state student I need a 3.4 GPA to be eligible to apply, although I’m not really worried about it. My question regarding this issue is exactly which GPA that seems to be. Is the 3.4 a minimum for just the A-G courses, or for all the courses you took during high school? Are the extra points that are awarded for “honors” classes included in this GPA or not? And if the GPA is for the A-G courses only, do you count those extra classes UCs list as “recommended”? (For example, the requirement for science is 2 years, but they recommend 3. This also ties into my question of which classes will be counted for A-G and which ones won’t.) And if I’m completely wrong about this and there is some other way that they calculate your GPA (the one that’s used for admission and the 3.4 requirement), could someone please explain it to me?
2. This one may only be relevant if you can use classes from freshman year, but, if you can, will my AP World History class that I took in 9th grade (I passed the exam with a 4) be given “honors” credit? What about AP Human Geography (Passed with a 5) taken that same year? Also, will AP Art History (Passed with a 5) taken in 10th grade receive the extra point for being “honors” as well?
3. What is the maximum number of extra points received from honors credit that can be used to calculate your GPA? (whichever is used for admission and the 3.4 requirement)</p>

<p>However, if I completely misunderstood the whole process of how UC counts credits and calculates GPAs and such, can someone tell me which classes will be used to figure out my GPA, what classes will count for A-G, and what classes I'll be able to get the honors bonus point for?
Here are the classes I have taken so far, I've earned mostly A's but a few B's from freshman year, and I've passed all AP exams with 4s and 5s. I also listed the classes I'm taking next year in case I need that too.</p>

<p>9th grade: AP World History, AP Human Geography, Biology, English 1, Spanish 1, Geometry
10th grade: AP European History, AP Art History, Chemistry, English 2, Spanish 2, Algebra 2
11th grade: AP Psychology, AP United States History, AP Environmental Science, AP English Language, Spanish 3, Pre- Calculus, Physics, Film Studies
12th grade: AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Government/AP Economics, AP English Literature, Photography, Humanities, Russian (duel enrollment in a community college)</p>

<p>(I also have Algebra I, Earth/Space Science, and French 1 & 2 credits from middle school.)</p>

<p>Sorry for all these questions, but thank you, thank you, thank you!</p>

<p>9th and 12th grade courses count to the a-g requirements (if you got a C or higher grade in them), but do not count in the UC admissions GPA.</p>

<p>Note that for math and foreign language, higher level courses validate lower level courses. So completing precalculus or calculus automatically fulfills four years of math, for example.</p>

<p>GPA calculation is described here:
[University</a> of California - Calculating GPA](<a href=“http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/q-and-a/calculating-gpa/index.html]University”>http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/q-and-a/calculating-gpa/index.html)</p>

<p>So basically all the classes I took in 10th and 11th grade will be used to calculate my admissions GPA?
And do I receive an extra point for all the AP classes I’ve taken and earned a C or higher in, or is there a limited amount?</p>

<p>Limited to eight, at least for most UCs. I’ve read LA and B also consider an uncapped UC GPA.</p>

<p>And don’t forget the arts requirement!</p>

<p>SAT and AP scores also replace requirements.</p>
