University of California Transfer Students Fall 2007 OFFICIAL THREAD!!!

you still have the original grade on your transcript, it just no longer factors into your GPA and the new grade will go into your GPA

I am pretty sure academic renewal is when you actually applied for and received academic renewal. If are just repeating the course that is not AR.

bobbak, yes record that you failed the class and then retaking it for the A. JUST FOLLOW YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.

awesome, thanks for the replies!

"does anyone know who looks at your app if your applying to HAAS. Does the app go from the main admissions office, to the haas admissions dept., then they look at it from there, or does HAAS look at it right off the bat. Another thing, in regards to HAAS, will they consider your personal statements just as much as the second essay in January?"

"do they look at the ECs on the app or the resume (to be submitted in jan) for the "outside of classes" stuff? If both, which one weighs more?"

"do they look at the ECs on the app or the resume (to be submitted in jan) for the "outside of classes" stuff? If both, which one weighs more?"

Why would the information be different? My resume matches (but is more descriptive) what I put on the application.

because I might get a better job in december....

When do we report our fall grades? Will they ask for them, or do we just send them in at a certain time?

Edit: Will the admission decisions be based on these grades? Will they be calculated into the overall GPA that they review?

what's HAAS?

Fall grades are reported during Fall 2007 and yes it'll be included in your GPA.

Haas is the business school at Berkeley.

The shortened version of a Haashole.

Just to clarify: I saw a post of someone saying that it looks bad if you spend extra time at a Community COllege. For example, like in my case, 3 years. Yesteryday, i talked to a UCB and a UCLA rep. They both said it does not matter.

hi, I have one question. For step 6 of the application, when they ask for your activities and awards, can u put yr high skool extra curricular activites or they meant yr current uni ECCs?

Major: Neuroscience
G.P.A: 3.5 (probally 3.4 by next semester)
Applying to: UCD, UCSD, UCLA,UCB ( im not sure if i have a good chance at UCLA or UCB...comments please =) )
no extra curricula activities. maybe mentoring program soon.
done with GE, calculus, general chem, and 1/2 biology sequence by the end of spring.

no ECs is going to hurt you, but you still have a shot at any UC..ucb and ucla will be tougher but anything is possible...

transfergurl, you're supposed to put your HS ECs because they allow you the option to choose when you participated in the EC through checklists. the options are: 9th grade, 10, 11, 12, and after 12.

Remember all, EC's and essays are pretty much negligible when it comes to UCB and UCLA. The ECs are magnified when it comes to schools like UCSD, UCI and others. UCB and UCLA will be looking primarily at GPA and major prerequisites.

Your EC's and essay will matter in gradschool. Remember them for that application.

I need my essay for grad school?!!? That seems odd...to be submitting an old essay

kevintech..

are you sure? i thought ECs and ESSAY are MOST important for UCB and UCLA...whats up with that? and mean you know..the 'comprehensive review' that ucb claims to do with applicants...

I dunno. I've been around in this board for quite a while, and I've seen plenty of people with little to no EC that gets into even the most impacted majors at UCB and UCLA for having a very high GPA.

Considering that fact, it seems like the single most important factor for the transfers is the GPA (assuming the person has all the pre-reqs completed).

Sure, both UCLA and UCB claim they use the comprehensive review, but they didn't really indicate which factors weigh more than the other. But I dunno about the UCB, but UCLA site mentions that academics is their primary factor for the decision:

"Competition for transfer openings has increased in recent years. Thus, ** strong academic preparation and performance are primary elements in our admission decisions. **"

What do they mean by academic preparation and performance? It obviously means the courses you took and the GPA.
