University of California Transfer Students Fall 2007 OFFICIAL THREAD!!!

ur retaking a course you got a C in?

how??? thats not allowed

i just enrolled in the same class again. they factor all transferrable grades in, so it averages out.

what the? how did u take 27 units in one semester? did you have time to breathe, eat and poop?

hahah yes.. i just went to a top hs and have good study habits. i do have a life, i have friends i have a family i party i go out. and yes, i do eat, poop, and breathe hahah

damn, and im crying cuz im taking 14 units next semester...i guess im a big wuss :(

hahah no, don't worry. good luck though! i found that i could balance the load without having my grades and social life suffer, that's all. i just have a weakness in math; the first semester was combined with a bad prof.

does UCLA allow us to send in supplements? teacher recs, resumes, etc.
since i already know i'm doing that for haas already

oh i see (10 char)

similar situation: freshman entering as junior standing.
22 units from ap's (two 3's, three 5's)
15 units from fall semestre (all A's)
23 units this semestre

igetc and tap.

philosophically inspiring essay that recounts my divine experience of learning about alexander the great who changed my outlook in life utterly.

some minor EC's.

did not complete major requirements, but plan to capitalize on tap: if i am rejected to the first major (art history) i will be admitted to alternative major (history) because i completed its major req.

two indications to my academic capability: being eligible within one year, skipping from french 101 to french 201.

one question: will the uc's know if one of ur essays are published by a university?

hm, good question. i would mail them a hard copy and tell them about it in the optional section, etc. do they accept supplements? i want to send in some stuff.

so i got some questions instead of advice and opinions!! please post. thank you =)

Extracurricular: Homeless Outreach Program, Active at Church, Army Reserves (psyops specialist)

Applying to: Cal, Davis, UCLA

i only really care about Cal, so it's hit or miss for me, even if i get into ucla and not cal, i woudl just go to davis. what are my chances? also are there letters of rec needed for cal? my teacher the other day asked me if i needed a letter of rec for berkeley cuz it really helps. i didn't know you needed letters of rec but is there a backdoor for that or something? last question, which might be a stupid one but, what is TAP? thanks.

i think i have seen your post before lol. Communications is the hardest major to get into at ucla besides business, econ, psychology and biology. So your chances there are really unknown. As for UCberk, i think you have a good chance, esp if you complete all the requirements :). Tap is the honors program @ a cc

haha yeah i posted this thing 3 times already. its funny how easily a simple post on a forum can ease or aggravate my anxieties. but yeah i seriously want to get into cal, im deploying to afghanistan in 2008 and if i can just get into cal this year that would make my year. thanks for the reply.

im sorry. are you trying to tell me that you're taking 31 semester units? as in 46.5 quarter units this quarter? i have no idea why you would try to lie on a website, but...why would you do that? and what do these courses consist of? are these just gpa boosters? i'm just curious because that seems a little too extreme to be considered..reasonable?

zemookmook,
why would i lie? these are all ge and prereq courses, not gpa boosters. please think about what you just said. i am a real person with feelings working hard trying to get into a good four-year college like everyone else. i am on this website for a reason. please do not insult me or anyone else.

jurevicius23,
TAP is the special honors program for UCLA, which boosts your chances. i also think you have a better chance at berk than LA for your major, which is good in your case =) there are no letters of rec required; however, i am sending them in anyway. best of luck!!

oohnelle u have a point but are you pmsing or something? dont worry about a guy who doubts u..take it as a compliment

hahah thanks california. i'm usually.. not like that. i was just upset after i read that because so many people doubt me.. including my parents. i'm just tired of it. i guess it just motivates me to work harder to prove them wrong. are you applying for fall 07 as well?

hahah no, don't worry. good luck though!

thnx, u 2!

does UCLA allow us to send in supplements?

[/quote]

I dont think so...even if a person sends in something like a letter of rec, i doubt they will look at it, unless they request it. I think i remember calling either ucla or berk and the robotic voice on the phone was like "dont send transcripts unless requested"

I need some help from you guys:

I passed the AP Calc AB exam in high school with a 3, which fulfills the IGETC requirement for quantative reasoning (basically the math requirement). However, I wanted to boost my units before my transfer, so I enrolled into a statistics class for this semester (winter). Right now, I'm thinking about dropping the class, which would earn me a "W" at this point. For reasons I can't share, I simply cannot fulfill the time requirement for the class, and am therefore earning an unpleasant grade.

So my question is: will dropping this class at this point raise some red flags? I figure that I can explain my situation on the "comment box" on the update site, which may earn me some sympathy.

Also, this is the first class I will be dropping. I have a GPA of 3.91+, and have had straight A's for 3 semesters straight. Last semester I took 20 units, and will be taking 21 units in the Spring. I will also be a TAP certified student. My main choices are Berkeley and UCLA.

wow. i really have no clue, but here's some of what i did..

i took ap econ, have credit for them, but retook the two classes anyway
1. for the grade
2. refresh my memory.. it won't hurt
3. may look better when you apply to grad school.. and when transferring to undergrad

i got a C in calc I, but am taking it again. to my knowledge, universities factor grades of all transferrable courses into your college gpa, so they basically average out. if a certain university does not replace or average the grade, it will still look better since you proved that you have motivation and have mastered the course. ultimately, it is up to you. it's hard to give you the right advice bc i don't exactly know your situation. best of luck

and thanks mojo! sigh.. i'm going to think about sending it in anyway, maybe.
