Applicants should know two other things about UCF admissions.
They superscore both SAT and ACT.
They recalculate weighted GPA’s as follows: They only count CORE courses required for graduation from Florida high schools. Therefore honors/AP bonus points for electives are NOT factored into your UCF weighted GPA.
Is it true that UCF only uses GPA and SAT scores in admissions, not resume, essay or extracurriculars in any way? In other words, non-holistic. If it’s not true, how do you submit resumes or portfolios to your application file?
For the most part- yes. As an observer on this thread for many years, if you don’t have a certain GPA or SAT/ACT you could get turned down. There have been people with amazing GPA’s that have been offered summer just because their SAT was low.
If you’re going to UCF and want to live in the dorms, apply for dorms EARLY.
That’s especially important if you are applying for an academic year contract (only for Fall and Spring). You don’t get to pick which dorm you’re going to live in. When time comes for dorm assignments, they go by who has the earliest acceptance for dorms, so applying early is really important.
For annual contracts (12 month at Towers and Northview), your actual room selection (building, floor, and exact apartment) is determined by your acceptance date.
So, did he receive an e-mail or just check his portal and see it posted there?
My daughter has been accepted to the school and also the Burnett’s Honor’s college, so I would expect some level of merit scholarship. Not sure how much, though.
My daughter got her merit about 2 weeks after her acceptance though as indicated in other responses, she did not get an e-mail, but it was in her portal.
Awesome News! We are still waiting, son applied Oct. 23rd with a ACT of 33 and GPA of 4.77, will have AA with DE but am getting concerned he waited to late to apply has he has not been accepted, therefore no BHC or meritt scholarhip yet and that is important. He applied through Common App and is homeschooled. I am concerned about the way UCF is sorting applicants based on SSAR and he could not do one as a homeschooler. Anyone have comment on this?
If you have not heard by Jan. 10th (when classes start)- call and see if everything is in order. Just the phone call could trigger something. His stats are good, so they should not be the problem.
A couple of years ago there was a kid who wasn’t getting any scholarship money even though his stats indicated he should. It turned out to be his residency wasn’t indicated. Once fixed, he got a very nice top scholarship. This was around March- so being accepted late, doesn’t necessarily mean no scholarship money.
I am not in the admissions business- but I think that if there is something different about your application the algorithm they are using can leave an application in limbo.
He could call today- I’m just not sure anyone is there.
My daughter has very similar stats ACT 33 and GPA uw 4.0, several DE and 11 AP classes. She applied before September 15th and was accepted in late October with a Merit scholarship. She applied and was accepted to BHC within two weeks of her acceptance. So, I agree with Jeneric that you need to dig into the situation as you should have heard by now. Btw, I assume you are checking his portal regularly? The UCF info went to her SPAM e-mail for some odd reason.
