University of Chicago, can I get in?

-I am a junior

-I have a 3.8 GPA (weighted) and a 3.7 GPA (unweighted)

-I have taken 5 AP classes so far, I will have taken 8-9 by graduation

-On the AP two exams I have taken, I scored a 4 on both

-I haven't officially taken the ACT, but I have taken a practice test, which I scored a 26 on, I think I can get a 30 for sure

-I am a member of NHS and Key Club, which is a community service club

-I am a member of my school's Newspaper staff, which is ranked #1 in Michigan

-I can speak near fluent French

Not with a 26, and very unlikely with a 30.

U Chicago: Reach (even at 30)
American: Match (at 26)/low match (at 30)

My kid got in EA this year with a similar GPA, but much higher test scores and a very “U of Chicago” life-of-the-mind profile (showed up in her activities, essays, and recommendations). You would really have to bring up your test scores a lot to be competitive.

Catria, why would you chance her for American? She did not ask…

To be honest, your chances are not very good. Your GPA and ACT score are both quite below average for Chicago. If you can bring up that GPA to above a 4.0 AND score a 32 or higher on the ACT, then you could have a shot.

The OP started a number of threads with only one school in it, and American was one of those schools. I’ll chance the OP for the remaining schools.

Georgetown: Reach
Columbia: Reach (an even higher reach than U Chicago or Georgetown)
NYU: Reach (at 26)/High match (at 30)
