Your SAT scores can actually be really different from the practice ones. (I’m not trying to be a downer, my real scores were actually much better from the practice ones.) But you seem like you have your stuff together and SATs should be no problem.

If you listed instead a GPA and class rank, it’d be easier to assess instead of reading through every single course you’ve taken. But I only see As so yeah, you’re good.

ECs: nothing really stands out except the cookbook and starting a tutoring program. for sports, it doesn’t really look all that great for really competitive schools unless you’re captain or something.

Overall, really great chance. Cross those fingers and best of luck.

Well, I should mention that I think I will either be Salutatorian or Valedictorian. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, and I can’t remember the weighted GPA off of the top of my head, but I have the 1st or 2nd highest in my class b/c i have taken the most rigorous curriculum available. (one might have higher grade than me b/c he had an independent study that counts as honors credit). i think i should also have more significantly highlighted the service club president of recycling thing because introducing can and bottle recycling to my school i think will look really interesting. but then again, i might be over-emphasizing it in my head. i am also NOT a URM, just in case that helps. thanks for your input TKDpro. If anyone has any other extra curricular ideas, let me know. thanks.

If you achieve your predicted SAT Scores on the real SAT, then I would say your in 100%. Very good course load, and also nice EC’s. The early decision will also help your chances.

You don’t need to bump after thirty minutes. Three hours is a more realistic timeframe.

Honestly, it’s hard to judge without a rank percentile. If you are salutatorian or valedictorian, out of how many? 50 students or 500 students?
Especially with the SAT, 2370 is a very high score to to predict, especially given the lower end is 2220, which isn’t bad anyways. I’m assuming you’ll take it in October, but if your score is, say, a 2300, right in the middle of your prediction, then with your profile, I’d say University of Chicago is a low reach. I’m not seeing anything special or inspiring, per say, but it is a strong profile overall. Harvard, UPenn, and Columbia will all be reaches, Harvard probably a high reach. Looks good, just do well on that SAT.

yeah, i probably should have put that my class is about 50 people. My school sends one or two to ivy league level schools each year, and a bunch to places like vandy UNC carnegie mellon and emory

Harvard: High Reach
UPenn: Reach
University of Chicago: Low Reach
Columbia University: Reach
University of North Carolina Chapel Hill: High Match
University of Michigan: Match
University of Virginia: High Match
University of Georgia: Match

Overall your “predicted lol” SAT scores and course load is very strong. I agree with the responses above me in that if you get a 2300-2350+ SAT score, you should be in at least one of your Reach schools. You have very good ECs and if you write good essays, you will definitely be a great applicant.

You seem to be a strong candidate with great dedication to public service. However, there is no one thing that stands out by itself. Sure, the cookbook is unique, but it is likely a one-time deal (versus a continuous effort like most ECs). There is not much focus outside of the broad category of public service, so your top schools will be unrealistic.

The fact that you have lots of ECs with borderline focus does not testify to your impressiveness. It merely shows that you can handle doing a lot of things at once–a skill that thousands of other UChi applicants also have.

After dozens of college info sessions, college fairs, campus tours, and hours of research, I cannot stress the importance of being unique in a pool of thousands of other equally qualified applicants. Your ECs show that you have solid leadership capacity, but there is no clear focus to your interests.

Your should still aim for a few reach schools, but I suggest adding some other colleges in between your reaches and your targets. There is a very big jump between Columbia and UMich, etc.

Well that’s the thing, i don’t really perceive the value of the colleges in between say Columbia and Michigan because most don’t offer good enough econ or business programs that would justify the cost. I’m in state for carolina, which basically means i’m a shoe-in (i’m not being cocky, my school send droves to UNC every year who aren’t exceptionally intellegent), and they have a fantastic business program for only 14k a year. so the only way i think i could justify the cost would be going to a school like an ivy or u chicago.

Disclaimer: I am probably the worst person to ask about chancing. I know absolutely nothing about college besides that you should apply to them (maybe that was exaggerating, but you get my point).

“Medlin-Davis Dry-Cleaners: Customer Service Representative”
I laughed at this. You make good usage of vernacular.

Your community service looks verrrry nice. You should include time commitment unless including it will harm your app. Straight As, also very nice. But your resume looks heavily weighted on community service. I don’t see any academic competitions and it looks like you only have 2 AP scores unless I suck at reading. I don’t know how important SAT scores are; I’m sure a good one will help but I don’t know to what magnitude.

Harvard University - astronomical
University of Pennsylvania - high reach (if you’re trying for Vagelos/Huntsman, astronomical)
University of Chicago - low reach
Columbia University - I know nothing about Columbia.

Specifically about UChicago: The people I know who got into UChicago had strengths in academic competitions moreso than grades. One of them had half Bs and half As but was debate club president and had competition titles. You have super strengths in your ECs which is a pro.

i’m actually a junior and will have 6 ap scores by the end of this year and 10 by senior year, so that’s good. i think i will try on the national latin exam for a gold medal, and on my agenda it has national history day competition, and my teacher thinks i could win at the state level at least. so that completes the academic competition recommendation i had from you. and i think, (to others who said i need to show increased involvement in certain areas), that i will make a club specifically for recycling collectors and try to get our school some recycling certification, i am going to have a couple of dinner-fundraiser type things showcasing my culinary abilities (maybe serve food to homeless with the help of food science club), and maybe try for history governor’s school in addition to boys’ state if their times don’t coincide. thanks for all of your imput to everyone who responded. i still continue to welcome feedback in this forum :)

i should also mention that i should have about 200+ hours when all is said and done. (if only i had logged the countless hours i spent on my cookbook…).

How much of this is projected and how much of this is actually fact?
I think you have a pretty good shot at UChicago, except that it seems they usually care more about genuinely intellectually curious kids with unique EC’s. I’d say it’s a Mid Reach maybe a Low Reach if the SAT is actually 2250+

SAT scores are projected and agenda is projected, everything else is fact. i am constantly getting 740+ on all my practice tests done so far so SATs are essentially correct. and i think because oof the way i sporadically formatted this thread, it is kind of hard to understand some of the significance of the activities auch as tennis and chorale and show choir and plays etc…
