Dare I have the temerity to suggest that this be the new official Fall 2010 University of Chicago transfer thread? ;)

I'm looking at UChicago as a form of liberation.

I'm currently at a private Christian university infamous for its homophobia. No bueno, seeing as how I'm a flaming homo. I'm really tired of hiding and feeling sinful and dirty for who I am....It hurts being at this school. I don't believe I should feel like this in this time and age...This is my main reason, along with a few (hundred ;)) other reasons why I'm slowly but surely falling in love with this school.

you can mention that your life style choices are different from those supported by the school. if you didn’t grow up in texas you could say that you weren’t ready for the culture shock and how it’s drastically different and you’re having trouble fitting in. you should probably leave out the personal stuff about being gay and stuff though lol. but you can say that the school doesn’t fit you and you don’t fit them, so you want to leave. that’s valid, afterall, most people transfer because of fit.

I don’t think you should leave out the personal stuff! I got into U of Chicago as a transfer student for this fall and I’m sure that if I held back on my essay, I wouldn’t have gotten in. If the personal stuff explains who you are and why you want to transfer, definitely include it! U of Chicago is pretty progressive of a school, don’t be afraid to open up.

I want to be specific and concrete as possible in my reasons for transferring, so I’m going to mention the gay thing, but definitely not dwell on it…

salomeya, what school did you transfer from? Why’d you transfer?

i am also unsatisfied with my current school (a senior CC in NY). most of the students are apathetic about what they’re learning, and many, unfortunately, have the same sentiments towards life in general. i need out, and chicago is looking pretty attractive.

Does UChi take SAT retakes? I didn’t do horribly on my SATs, but my SAT IIs are a little low. Also, I want to take an SAT II that I didn’t in high school, but I’m unsure if it will be accepted.

I was actually thinking about UChicago…but then they have so many essays…so I think i’m going to put it off a bit after I’m done with all my other essays.

hey does anyone know if uchicago requires a midterm report of your current grades? I can’t find any info on this on their website, but I find it hard to believe that they don’t want our current grades! I am a transfer student hopeful fall 2010.
