I’m applying for fall 2011.

Applying for Fall 2011 as well.

Some stats:

California community college student
Major: English
GPA: 4.0 (As far as I know I have gotten a 4.0 this Fall semester as well)
Units completed: 59
After Spring: 73 (maybe 76)
EC’s: Work (40 hours + a week during Spring, part time otherwise), Big Brothers Big Sisters, Food Bank, Beach clean up, Secretary of Alpha Gamma Sigma honors society, In2Books e-pal program…
Letters: I had one professor I had a few times who I explained my interest of U of Chicago to. He graduated from a Master’s program there and is working on his PHD there and guarantees he can get them to look at my app twice. The other letter shouldn’t be too difficult either.
SAT: 1510 (I think I’m going to retake in January because I KNOW I can do much better. I had taken the SAT’s the very last chance possible in my Senior year with no time to study.)

Extras: I wasn’t going to be applying to any private colleges for transfer but if I manage to get good financial aid (i’m very low income) then it might be a possibility.
I will have taken 9 English classes by the end of next Spring.

Good luck to you all!

is that a 1510 out of 1600?

I’m applying for fall 2011 as well. Care to chance me?

School: Cornell University
Major: Industrial and Labor Relations
GPA: 3.7 after one semester
SAT: 1490
High School GPA: 3.9 Unweighted
Letters: I’ll have one professor who will write a stellar rec. The other will just be a TA because I only had giant lecture classes.
ECs: Exec board of two clubs, on several committees for other organizations

Good luck everybody

I’m a freshman PoliSci major at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

3.9 GPA, great ECs in HS, still working on getting involved on campus, 34 ACT, 2310 SAT, and at least two great recommendations from professors lined up. One earned his PhD from UChicago a few years ago. I got an A+ in his political game theory course if that helps. On the other hand, my HS GPA was pretty bad. I got plenty of B’s and C’s. Chicago waitlisted me last year.

Chicago was and is my top choice.

Am I at least competitive here? Or is my HS GPA going to continue to haunt me?

Do I have a chance?
have a low gpa compared to others here.

Freshman in tier 1 college (national rank in the 50s).
GPA: 3.506
SAT: 2320 SATII Lit:780 math iic: 800
Two good recs from math and philosophy professors.
ECs (college): currently Assistant News Editor in newspaper & Assistant Concertmaster in symphony orchestra

Is being the assistant news editor in college newspaper helpful at all?
need encouraging reply…
my low gpa is haunting me… ugh.
what should I do to higher my chance of getting in?

This, along with University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign, are my “reaching” schools. I am quite nervous, as I am a first-generation college student; learning the ins and outs of the numerous processes is difficult and of course, I have a pessimistic view on being able to attend a prestigious uni.

School: Community College in IL (suburb of Chicago).
Year: Current Sophomore
GPA: 3.6~
ACT (not sure if this will be taken into account): 27
Current Concentrations: Communication; Marketing; Languages [Spanish, Japanese, and French]
Major @UofC: International Studies with a minor in EALC and / or Human Rights.

Extras / Work / Other: Certified Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor, 20 hours per week, plus a position at Goodwill Industries INC. Active volunteer for the community and for the college, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Also occupies position on the Writing Tutors Staff and International Board. Various volunteering events with travelling Varsity Choir. I have at least one professor in mind that would be able to write me a fantastic recommendation.

I have no idea what else I can bring to the table; will any of this even help me or should I even apply?

Part of the Common App Supplement for the University of Chicago is a required section called “Additional Information”. It doesn’t say anything else. What should I put in this section?

Part of the Common App Supplement for the University of Chicago is a required section called “Additional Information”. It doesn’t say anything else. What should I put in this section?

I just put what my intended major was.

Highschool GPA: ~3.9

UT Austin McCombs
GPA: 4.0
HS: 3.8
ACT: 32 | Math 2: 800

@ ltohang lol nah your not ****

Does anyone know if econ at UChicago is harder to get in (trasnfer))??

My account says that they haven’t received my transcript, but I have the tracking number and it was delivered Feb. 7 or something. Should I contact them about it?

No.

If you want, you can call them. They will just say check online again in a week.

I sent my college report and transcript in the same envelope but they’ve only received the report. Give them time. They dont start review transfer apps until late April and they are still tied up with freshman apps.

^okay, thanks

Question:
On our tracking page it asks if we want an interview. Does the interview impact the application? Or is it more of an informational, worry-free interview?

Ace, I have the same question. Does anyone know whether the interviewer has access to our applications or essays, or do they go into it knowing nothing about us?

For UPenn and Cornell (except for hotel/archy), the interviews do not matter. So I guess its similar for UChicago…

It DOES say “optional.” But who knows…

I feel like it’s just a way to get more information about the school, firsthand from the alumnus. I’m skeptical at its impact on the application process.
