I was wondering, what is the likeliness of receiving a merit-based award at the University of Chicago? Do you have to be a super super student with every EC possible plus perfect act/sat scores, or will scores such as mine (34 act, 2170 sat plus 4.0 gpa/4.74 weighted) suffice? How much merit aid is available, and what are my chances of getting any? I really like the school, and it is my top choice. I am a full IB diploma candidate as well, with a lot of ECs, although not possibly as many as some have. Do I have any shot at merit aid at Chicago, or should I concentrate on somewhere else?

It's REALLY difficult. Unless you have some amazing talent or passion you forgot to mention, yeah, you might get in, but merit aid...nope.

^stats of someone who got money at UChicago.

My friend with a 35 ACT, really well-qualified...only got WLed at UChicago. It's competitive just to get in. Good luck!

Agree with the above:

Generally, merit aid at top colleges are not rewarded to those with only good stats. Everyone admitted is generally academically qualified. They're awarded to exceptionally students to bring something different and diverse to the college.

You could get in with need-based aid if you write a good essay, but the chance of merit essay is unlikely.

by the way that person now goes to duke on a full scholarship, got into mit, caltech, princeton, harvard...kinda tells you what range you should be in...
