University of Chicago Score Policy

Hey guys! So I’m aware that the school superscores both the act and sat and recommends sending in all score. My sat and act score are pretty much the same (according to the concordance table). However I received a ridiculously low score on my act science section, even though superscored my score is 30. The act equivalent score of my sat is a 29, one point lower. I already sent in both of my official scores for the act. However, because the school allows for self reporting I’m thinking of omitting my act scores and just reporting my sat. I know this sounds really odd, since technically my act is higher (30) but my science score was a 23 so I believe that would raise a huge red flag. In the end though I’m not sure if this would even make much difference since i already sent my official scores in when i registered for my act but oh well :frowning: Thanks in advance!

What were your SAT score(s)? Please provide section and totals.

@JBStillFlying I only took the SAT once and I received a 650 m / 660 r /1310 total.

There is a possibility that the concordance tables are under-concording for comparison to old SAT. However, that’s more anecdotal than not. Unless you’ve heard otherwise you have to assume that your school will rely in part on concordance. Of course, UChicago has the distribution of scores from the past admission cycle to go on as well, but we don’t know what those distributions look like because they haven’t been published yet for the Class of 2021.

In any case, your one SAT, which concords to a 28 on the Collegeboard tables, is obviously not as strong as the superscored ACT. Is it the case that your science superscore is a 23, or only one of the science scores?

Also, how to you omit your ACT score once it’s been officiallly sent from the testing agency to UChicago, which is what it sounds like you did? Self reporting is an option to help save money but if you already arranged to have the scores sent when you registered for the ACT they are likely to be at UChicago right now. Whether they are used or not depends on any further tests you report (either officially or through self-reporting). Or am I missing something?

@JBStillFlying I was referring to the part on the UChi admissions website that states “These students will not be required to submit official score reports unless they are admitted and choose to enroll,” which I interpreted to mean that only self reported scores would be considered during the initial admission process.

Yes that is true, although I would try the ACT one more time and concentrate on the science section.

@floraha - self reported scores are an option to save money in case you are not admitted - UChicago is sensitive to the cost of applying when the admit rate is 8%, and how frustrating that can be. So they don’t require you to send anything “officially” unless you have been admitted. However, in your case, you’ve already sent them scores. Those are going to be part of your application and will be used to superscore your ACT. @CU123 is correct - you might want to retake the ACT and focus on Science. A higher science will only improve your superscored ACT - it can’t hurt it at all. And you SAT is not a better score.

Take the test again! I went into senior year with a 30, took it a couple more times and bumped my score up to a 34. For me at least the test got easier as i got more familiar with it.
