it depends what major you're interested in. for the most part, in think WASHU is morew competitive.

i am talking about UNDECIDED MAJOR here
thanks..
anyone else????

UChicago has a higher acceptance rate, but it pays more attention to essays and a students fit, than does Washington University.

Wash U, at least with friends who applied to both schools, seems easier to get into.

UChicago is definitely more competitive. The applicant pool to Chicago is stronger.

“The applicant pool to Chicago is stronger.”

-And you know this how?

Nope. Numerically, the applicant pool at Chicago isn't quite as strong. Only about 80% were in the top 10% of their class, and only 27% scored over a 1500 on M+CR. For an international applicant applying for financial aid, however, the situation is a bit different. In this case, I would consider WUStL slightly easier simply because it has a much, much larger endowment that can accomodate more international students.

UChicago's pool is more self-selective, and they pay more attention to essays and recs than WashU. For those that have the numbers but not the savy to write excellent essays, UChicago would be harder to get into. For those that have great stats, WashU would be easier--especially if not majoring in science.

Depends on the individual applicant and their strengths...

Hmm...WashU's acceptance rate is below 20% and it is now the 8th? hardest school to get into in the country. UChicago, while amazing, boasts a considerably high acceptance rate. I would say UChicago would be easier to get into. Or you could remedy your problem by applying to both.

You DO know that the atmospheres are very, very different at each of the two schools, don't you?

Just something to keep in mind :-)
