UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO WAITLIST FOR CLASS OF 2019

@tesfayeB I live in the west coast, specifically Washington.

@Baloney1011 I was surprised to be notified at such an early date. If anything it may mean that after looking at some applications more closely they feel that they had more room for other acceptances.

I am jellin’ so hard.

@hugzUC same here man :frowning: at least we have ~1 month left till they close the waitlist probably so they’ll probably be making more calls?

Oh no. I haven’t sent my LOCI yet. Crap am I really too late? Is this a disadvantage for me? :frowning: i’m freaking out

Like I said earlier, I really think it’s your original application that matters more than new updates (unless it’s significant like you won a Pulitzer) or a letter (since they call you and ask if you are still interested)
I didn’t even have to send my loci which pisses me off sent I wrote it already.
Also, if this helps, the guy from my church said no thanks and everyone I know that got accepted (Ea or rd) is declining.
Edit: keep in mind, with the 4% rate for rd, many applicants they accepted to UChicago also got into better schools.
Another edit: lol sorry I keep thinking of things since I wanna help out!! I did a lot of research on Waitlists and sometimes you just got a courtesy Waitlist so you really need to think and evaluate your app (see if you match up to other admitted students since it’s even harder to get in thru Waitlist and look at where you got accepted- if you got in to equal schools to UChicago then you have a better chance as opposed to only getting in to your state school) to

  1. Not get hopes up
  2. Decide whether to give up or keep going
Many internationals, people a little less qualified than others but really tried on their app, or literally people the ad com pity often get courtesy wait listed. But in reality, it’s just a nicer rejection.

has anybody from New Jersey got off the waitlist yet?

“Many internationals, people a little less qualified than others but really tried on their app…”
That’s me… so me. I’m going to send in the LOCI first thing on Monday seeing as it’s pointless to send it on a Saturday… and just hope for a miracle I guess. :frowning: This is so depressing!

I don’t have access to the phone number I applied with… IWhat if I potentially miss an admissions call? Would the account status still update, and I can confirm it there? Because all the students who got off the waitlist so far seem to have gotten calls to confirm first, and then the account updates online. Should I email them with updated contact information?

@alchemist7010 Hi…omg i can totally relate to that too :frowning: from the moment i got the decision I was asking myself why waitlisted and not rejected and I guess now I have my answer :’( I still sent the LOCI though and I will need an absolute miracle…now i feel like the admissions committee pitied me lol

I so can relate! I am most likely the “people less qualified than others, but really tried on their app” sigh. I kind of believed I had a glimmer of hope

Guys! I didn’t say that to discourage you. Now I feel bad, but it’s just what I read online and have heard from other people.

Anyone else off the waitlist? honestly surprised that calls are being made so early!

ok so someone previously mentioned that Chicago admitted 130% of what their entering class is this year? That means for a class of about 1300 they admitted about 1700 students. Assuming that yield remains relatively constant around 50% that means that they’ll be pulling almost 450 kids off the waitlist this year? That sounds totally inaccurate but if they are already making calls do you guys think it’s possible they totally under enrolled this year and are going to lean very heavily on the waitlist?

I heard this week at the first admitted student overnight that they had 950 committed as of the middle of the week. So, that would mean about 350 or so spots left for the class. There were many kids at the overnight still undecided. I’m sure they will take more from the waitlist before they are done, but it will not be anywhere near the 450 you mention. Also, there is a second overnight for admitted students this coming weekend. Best of luck to all.

AAAAAAAAAA! I really hope I get off the waiting list! I kind of hope that many of the admitted students get into their dream school(that is hopefully not UChicago)! I am hanging by a thread of hope! If I get in I will pray every single day five times a day! aaaaaaa!!!

Thanks for the info @CTlawyer !
Are you a recent waitlist admit? I’m hoping to get off of it soon, so I’m hoping for the best!

Honestly I don’t expect anything so it’s whatever

@soccerboy10 Where’d you hear that 130% thing? I can’t seem to find it in the thread.

2nd page of replies, “Our guidance counselor was told that there were over 1000 people on the wait list. Even then, they made almost 30% more offers than places, so the odds look very long.” Giving the 130% number. I can’t imagine these numbers add up correctly and I have always been weak with math but I’m more looking for someone to explain why I’m wrong than to get excited because I am awfully confused.
