UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO WAITLIST FOR CLASS OF 2019

@Goldfish76 did you hear that In A CC thread or from your counselor? I hope it’s true, but I’m not sure how many more they will want to accept…

Based on the above post and last year’s trend: small number of offers in April and more in May

Hey everyone, I just won pole vault for my track district!! I have been trying to call and email the track coach since a few weeks ago to ask about the team, but he keeps ignoring me. Should I try to reach out to the assistant coach? Call my regional admission counselor? I don’t know how big of a deal they see this as, but it is an update.

Cazoon: Yes, I would reach out to the assistant coach and your regional counselor. You don’t know, the head coach may be totally absorbed in the season or travelling and may be avoiding his email at this point in time.

Does anyone know when they will make a survey available so that Waitlisted people can indicate whether or not they want to take a gap year?

I know i’m super late to do this, but where do I send in my LOCI? as in who do I send it too/how should it be sent?? Ah I’m freaking out

Track coach just emailed me back and I have a guaranteed spot on the team if I get in! Now all I need to do is get off of this wait list!!! And then find the money to pay for Chicago…

Should I just email the LOCI directly to my regional counselor??

is there a survey for waitlisted students to indicate that we’re open to taking a gap year? has anyone seen it? thanks everyone

Hey everyone. I haven’t posted in a while but I decided to drop by and say that yesterday I was accepted off the waitlist via phone call, so I can confirm that they are accepting a few off the waitlist early. That said, goodluck everyone!!! Dreams do come true!!!

@JustinTheory congrats! Could you give us some info on what you did after getting waitlisted? And who called you-your regional counselor? Thanks!

I was just accepted off the waitlist yesterday! Wow, I had given up hope on UChicago and getting out of Texas
@monkmonk , while I can’t say for sure (I was too excited to really take note of who was calling me), I do believe that it was my regional counselor that called.

@AggravatedTeddy congrats! What did you do after getting wait listed: like send a letter, etc?

@monkmonk
I sent a LOCI last Saturday actually. I talked about how I was stil very interested in UChicago, a few things that I had done recently, and then I talked about how UChicago was a great fit for me by talking about the particle physics course that it has for undergraduates and by talking about how they have courses for Basque (I want to major in Physics and learning languages/linguistics is my hobby). I told them about how rare it is to see these two opportunities offered, and how I would want to take advantage of them if I was accepted. I wasn’t sure what was the best way to send it, so I emailed it to my regional admissions counselor, uploaded it through my UChicago account, and sent it to the Office of Admissions through snail mail, haha. My regional counselor sent me an email back and told me about how he also studied physics and a language at UChicago and how they can be a great pair for each other. He said that they’ll be rolling out admissions through early May, and he told me that being waitlisted isn’t a negative reflection on my academic career and that whether I end up at UChicago or elsewhere, he was sure I’d have a successful college career (which kind of made it sound like I wasn’t gonna get off the waitlist, haha).
That was all I did. I was worried that maybe it was too late for a LOCI since a few people were already getting off the waitlist, but I guess not!
If you haven’t yet, I’d recommend sending a letter soon.

Does anybody know where you can check financial aid?
They said they’d rush it out to me and get it either on Friday or Monday, so I’m not sure if I just can’t find where to look or if they haven’t put it out yet.

@JustinTheory I sent a letter as an email and uploaded it into my uchicago portal on March 24, so I hope I get off the waitlist soon! Do you know any more about the waitlosy: like how many more people they plan on admitting and when? Thanks so much

Congrats @JustinTheory and @AggravatedTeddy! I was wondering, are you all domestic applicants?
Did any international students get off the waitlist yet?

I noticed that everyone pulled off the waitlist so far has been contacted by phone. Which is concerning, because phone is not a possible form of communication for me. I doubt that even if someone was going to be pulled off, the counselor would contact through email or update the UChicago portal without hearing a convenient confirmation through phone.

I told my regional counselor I was willing to take a gap year. Would that have any influence one when they contact would contact me if they did?

On sorry not one. Stupid autocorrect
