University of Chicago!

Alright, I applied Early Action and should be receiving a response around December fifteenth, but as time draws near I only get more and more anxious, so let's see what your crystal balls say.

SAT I: 2250, with 760 verbal, 710 maths, and 780 writing; National Merit Semi-finalist, probably finalist.

SAT II: Lit 740, Math II 710, Spanish with listening 800. Took the Latin SAT this saturday and I definitely feel an 800; more on this below.

GPA: 3.8ish unweighted, something like 4.7 weighted. In IB if that matters at all.

Class rank: Top tenth, if not higher.

AP Tests: Music Theory 3, Chemistry 3, BC Calculus 3, Literature 5, European History 4

Sports: None official, BUT I have a heartwarming story of how I lost over 100 pounds through exercise, starting pumping iron, and formed an after-school soccer league that plays for hours every Friday.

Leadership:
Been number one in Literature and History in our school's Academic Team, which is undefeated.

Active member of school's debate club

Physics Club Vice-President and later President.

I'm a member of stupid stuff like National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society and stuff

Community Service - 150 at a Hospice Thrift Shop and 75 at a local hospital. Lots of warm and fuzzy stories about how it made me a better human being to boot.

Miscellaneous stuff:
Came to America as an immigrant from the lovely nation of Brazil at the age of eight, and am thus technically Latin-American. I have American citizenship.

I gave my essays to several U of Chicago students to read and they were all amazed at how good it is. Apparently they're very good.

I believe my recs are excellent; you'll have to trust me on this.

I taught myself how to compose music by doing counterpoint exercises. I taught myself how to play the piano, and took up the violin, as well as the guitar. I taught myself Latin and Attic Greek, and am currently learning Classical Hebrew (I can get away with modern hebrew too). I can understand Italian and French spoken and written, and I can write and speak in both languages with some difficulty. I've only begun to take French classes this year, never in Italian. I'm pretty groovy with Portuguese and Spanish too, but that goes without saying. I love languages and I plan on majoring in Near Eastern Studies and becoming an archaeologist.

I am in Florida, and thus could not get an interview because they couldn't find many (if any) alumni wanting to give interviews.

Thanks in advance!

awesome chances....if you can omit yer ap scores, that'll help, but if not, it'll hurt but not by too much...UChicago is big on essays, less so on scores, so if yer essays are really that good, you should be fine

I think I either sent Literature or none of them, but I'm not sure.

I think you have a great shot at University of Chicago. PipingHotTofu is right when he/she said that Chicago focuses more on essays than test scores. Chicago is looking for unique people and from what I have read you seem to be very unique, driven and you seem to have a lot of character. Good luck! :)

(and for your APs you probably could have sent your AP Euro score too.. 4s and 5s are what colleges like to see)

This is horrible because now I have even less impetus to finish the other college apps.

Bumpin' this for more opinions

You are an URM with good/great stats, I'd put off my applications and do some more exercise!

I feel really bad and really good about being a URM

very good chances. Good luck!

very good chances.

youll most likely get in
