I'm a junior right now, I have a 3.6 gpa. I have taken accelerated math classes as well as 3 ap classes. I got a 4 on the US history test, and am taking European history, and psychology right now. Next year I will be taking 8 total ap classes (Calc, macro/microeconomics, english lit, english comp, bio, physics, and chem). I am also taking courses at the local university this summer.
I was an intern for the democratic party over the summer, and was on the forensics team as well as several other clubs.
I pride myself on my ability to write unique essays/papers something teachers frequently compliment me on. I have some academic awards (presidential award/student of the month). And I have held two part time jobs over my high school career.

My question is, given my current situation what are my chances at the University of Chicago? And when should I start applying to colleges?

There is no such thing as "zero percent" chance as far as any school goes.. even the very best of the best.... I mean the odds of you doing somethign highly exceptional within a couple of months are low.. but there is always a way... Just make sure you're essays are good and that you make sure you let them see why you would be ideal for their univ. ... > I really have no idea how selective U of Chicago is.. sorry.

Well, you worked for the democrats right? In case you haven't heard they didn't do all that great in the election so you might not want to put that down. Haha, just kidding (because I know some idiots will think I'm being serious). Anyways, everyone I know at Chicago says it's filled with unique and sort of zany kids. They're big on creativity and out of the box thinking so if you can make your essay unique that'll help you a lot. Just make sure you show serious interest in your ECs and you're good to go

"they're big on creativity and out of the box thinking..."
Do you think I should send them a copy of my short story "Andrew Jackson, Super-Cop", in which Andrew Jackson is a super-cop with a devil may care attitude who must stop Henry Clay from stealing money from private banks to build a road to hell?

Don't tell them you helped the democrat party for two reasons:
If the admissions people looking at ur app are repubs, they will look down on you.
Plus, you associate yourself with losers, and you don't want to look like a loser.
Sending your story would not help you, and might hurt you. I would not resort to something like that until waitlisted, in which time it is good to try to stand out.

Get good recommendations, they are important to UoC.
Write a good essay, you say you are good, show this.
I would say you need 2000 SAT to be competitive, so start studying.
You need more EC's. Get involved with your school.
AP test scores will not help u get admitted.

Try to do this things and it will improve your chances.

I think they will see your story as more of a desperate move, like you feel you aren't good enough so you must send something that is not required or asked for. Hold off on it I would say.

Definitely apply. Your unique writing ability could very well get you in. Ask the teachers to mention it in their recommendations, with supporting details if possible. Your essays will make or break you, so make sure that they are good. Make sure that they know that you truly are interested in going there, and why. Also, do the interview. It could help a lot.

Boba -
my son was admitted this year with a 3.6 UW. He had good board scores, rec's, and ec's, and wrote a very good essay. So - do your best for grades, and start thinking about your essay when the prompts go up in late summer.

I haven't been rejected because I have not applied.

Obviously i was joking about the democrat thing, but I wasn't about the story, just my honest opinion.

I think if u were going to send the story, it would be 10x better if you sent them a clipping of it published in the school paper, now that would win some points.
