So I have just been notified that I’ve been invited to participate in the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) process for the College of Nursing at UC. I was wondering if anyone has any insight into what exactly this process is. That would be so helpful! Also what kind of questions should I be expecting them to ask? And what should I wear? The UC website says “professional dress”. How many applicants that are selected to interview are actually admitted? Any input on this would be great!

Yes, my daughter was invited to interview last year, the first year they did it. If I am remembering correctly, about 250-300 kids interviewed over the various weekends they held it. There were maybe 15 interviewees in my daughter’s time slot. They split the group up, and half interviewed first and half played in the sim lab and then switched.
You can google MMI to get a sense of what they ask. It’s nothing you can really prepare for in terms of them asking about knowledge. The interviewers came from a lot of different areas and were volunteers - not all of them were connected with nursing or even UC. It was like speed dating - each interviewer and kid spent about five minutes together and then moved on. My daughter did tell me what they asked when she was done, and from what I can remember it was “soft skills” stuff like “if a patient was dying of cancer but the family didn’t want them to know, what would you do?”
The dean made a big deal out of saying these interview slots were “cherished spots.” I personally believe everyone who was asked to interview was admitted - the numbers add up. They also had a meeting for parents, and someone asked if these kids were on the bubble and she said “absolutely not.” We speculated that kids above a certain ACT were admitted by admissions, while those below were sent to the nursing school to get sorted out. My daughter was offered an interview about two weeks after her application was complete.
My daughter wore a black dress, heels and a sweater. The boys there wore ties. I think she would have opted to wear flats, since there was some walking involved in the sim labs downstairs.
