UC-Boulder extended its stated application deadline from January 15 to February 15. Initially when it was announced on the UCB Admissions website, they didn't provide the extension date, just "hurry and send your materials in." Is this common for large state universities? Do you think they are having trouble reacing their enrollment numbers with qualified applicants?

That is interesting! I know 2 students there and they both have struggled due to the immense party scene there. One is being kicked out. They are both in a fraternity/sorority.

All the kids from our town that are going there have made it clear that it is their choice for the party scene.

Google the “420” (or whatever they call the pot smoking day!) at UC Boulder 2010 and look at the pictures.
Enough said!

Boulder is known for being pretty “hip.” But DS1 graduated from UW-Madison last year, and apparently they smoke a lot of pot there, too. I think the kids that are pot smokers are going to find it wherever they go, be it Harvard or the local community college. DD is considering UC-Boulder, but we were concerned with the extension of the application deadline. What does it really mean? Is the application pool that shallow academically, or are they having an overall decrease in applications?
