I am applying to many colleges and UC Boulder is one of them. How does that compare to the other schools i am applying to such as ucla, usc, Utexas-austin, and UFlorida. Is colorado below these schools? if so how would it compare to something like michigan state

What do you mean by "below"? If you're talking about low energy physics, there's no better place in the world.

UCLA, UT Austin, USC, and U of FL are all more selective. If US News reputation scores are helpful, UCLA has a 4.3 (out of 5), USC a 3.9, U of FL a 3.6, UT Austin a 4.1, and U of CO a 3.5.

how would the selectivity compare to a school like michigan state?

Boulder is such a different place than East Lansing, which is different than Gainesville, which is different than Austin. You've got a city in the mountains, against two college towns - one in a cold weather climate the other warm weather, and one big city. And then there's LA.
