University of Colorado Out-of State

Does anyone have experience sending their son or daughter to CU Boulder from out of state (OOS) or perhaps being an OOS student themselves?

I know the school has a lot to offer academically, so my inquiry is not meant to be an indictment on the school or student body as a whole. However, the school does seem to get a bad rap as a “consolation prize” for kids from California who could not get into the UC schools or for kids from Texas who could not get into Texas A&M or UT Austin.

There are not many campuses around the country that can offer the beauty and locale of CU, but I am concerned about the overall campus vibe. I know most schools could be classified as a “party” school in some form or fashion, but a lot of reviews I read seem to imply that the social scene at CU is driven by the not-so-serious student who is just there to party and ski for 4+ years on Daddy’s credit card.

I appreciate any input and guidance.
