My high school doesn't offer any AP classes that I really want to take. If they offered AP Psych I'd take it but they don't. Can I still get into University of Delaware without any AP classes? Does it up my chances a lot if I were to take one class vs. have no AP classes? I guess my question is, do admissions counselors look MUCH more favorably upon students who take one AP class compared to none? I will have an Honors Italian class.

Admission requirements for OOS, Honors Program, and selected majors are MUCH higher than for instate students applying to less competitive areas of the university. I don’t believe the lack of AP courses would be an impediment for most students.

The University of Delaware Forum is relatively active. You many want to post this over there as well.

There are a lot of high schools that do not offer AP courses. Colleges like to see that you have taking the most challenging classes “offered” at your high school so as long as you have done that, and obtained good grades, it should not be an issue. It is not your fault that your high school does not have AP courses. You can’t take what is not offerered, right? Good luck with your application.

^ The OP is saying that there’s no AP offered that s/he wants to take. That’s very different from not offering AP classes, period. OP: How many AP classes does your school offer, and which ones? AP Psych is not considered rigorous or core academics.

But I have no idea what the answer to your question would be, assuming that you are applying OOS (if in-state, cf. Commitment to Delawareans).

^ oops, my apologies. I completely missed that line of the OP. However, I disagree about Psych not being considered rigorous, at least at our school. It is considered one of the most difficult AP courses at our high school and is avoided by many seniors, the only ones eligible for the course at our school. However, I personally can’t imagine it being as difficult as AP Physics, Literature, etc.

As far as the OP, if you have strong grades and test scores, the lack of AP courses does not automatically exclude you from Delaware.

Yes, you can get into UDel without APs.

I never took an AP class or exam at my school, which DOES offer a decent amount of AP’s, and I got accepted and even got a 6k/year scholarships. I was out of state too and I wasn’t an URM, an athlete, or a guy with a hook. Also, my GPA and SAT were decent but nothing to write home about. So the lack of AP’s shouldn’t hurt you that much.

I know a lot of people who have gotten into UDel with no AP classes, and minimal honors courses as well. So, to answer your question: yes.
