S. has 3.7 uw, 4.1 weighted GPA; 1440 SAT. APs in World Human Geography, Euro History, US History, Physics, Econ, French, Psych, Biology. Member of school’s state championship tennis team (will be captain as senior in 2018), marching band, quiz bowl team, National Honor Society, French Honor Society. Boys State delegate this summer. 25 - 50 hrs/year community service. Anyone have good knowledge/guess at DU merit aid chances?
I’d say good chance of one of the higher awarda. My DS had a higher GPA, but only one AP course (school only offered one), but slightly lower SAT/ACT scores, and got the second highest merit award (3 years ago, he’s a rising senior at DU now).
Thank you - that is encouraging! And how has he enjoyed DU? Seems like it would be a good fit for ours, if he can get enough merit aid to help make the bill manageable.
My son has been very happy at DU. He’s in CS, focusing on game design and programming. He studied in Scotland last fall. The biggest issues (pretty minor) seem to be that the dining hall food isn’t great, and some students seem to have difficulty getting the classes they need (but he hasn’t had a big problem with that; he just gets on a waiting list, talks with the prof, and usually gets in). He’s learned a lot, both in his major and in other classes; made some good friends; and found nice, convenient, and reasonably-priced apartments for his junior and senior years. He plans to stay in Denver after graduation (if he finds a job there; Seattle and Portland are also on his list). Good luck with your search.
Thank you. The dining hall food is NEVER great. Just part of the college experience! Thanks for the info.
Update - SAT retaken. Son now has 1480 superscore
S was accepted early EA with a $23K Chancellor scholarship plus a $3000 R&B credit. Very happy and with the aid it’s among his top choices.
