University of Denver Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

This is the official thread for those applying EA/ED to University of Denver.

List your unweighted GPA, any SAT /ACT scores, and ECs. What majors are you going into?
Ask your questions, the CC community is here to help!

D24 just sent in her application. Anyone else hoping to get an acceptance early so this whole college thing can be over?

After attending a virtual event earlier this week, she thinks Denver is at the top of the list for now.

D sent hers in yesterday too. 3.8/4.1 good rigor, and above average EC. Seems to be in their sweet spot.
She is Poli sci/international relations. We toured and she really liked campus vibe. Really hoping they stick to precedent and report before Christmas. Would be great to have one down!

We visited campus yesterday. D absolutely loved the campus vibe, the support for study abroad really sold her. 3.9/4.1, OOS, Geography Major. Financial Aid will be the final decision maker, hopefully NPC is accurate!

Last year DU notified well before Christmas. Somewhere around December 15th for EA!

We just visited and my husband and I fell in LOVE with DU. We want to enroll ourselves. Sadly, my son didn’t feel the “vibe”. He felt like it was a lot of “rich white kids”. Surprisingly he didn’t feel the same about CU and really liked it. I still hope he gets in so maybe we can give it another look.

My son applied EA. For every other school he’s applied to, he’s received an email confirmation, and for most, a request to login to a portal. For DU he’s not received even an email. I asked him to check to make sure he actually submitted it - he says the common app shows submitted. I am a little worried he is missing something - anyone else have this experience?

My D applied EA in October and had a DU portal within a day or so, I think you should call them and ask. They’ve been one of the most organized of the ten or so colleges she has applied to, so hopefully they can sort it out quickly.

S24 got his portal login in one day. They even updated his financial page with CSS received. DU has been very organized and great with communication. I would call them.

That’s so funny. S24 loved DU and got the “rich white kids” vibe at CU Boulder. This is why college visits are so important.

Thank you! He is emailing first thing in the morning.

Thanks you!

I visited DU while I was out in CO for a work meeting in October and I fell in love with the campus! This campus is low on my daughter’s list of schools although we are going to do a campus tour next week. I am going to work on my son, he will be college bound in 2 years, the only thing is his grades aren’t quite as good as hers, so the merit might not be as good for him.

DD accepted tonight ED with $33k Chancellor + $5k ED merit + $3 housing. We are beyond excited for her!

DS applied EA

3.83UW; 4.13W
8 APs
1400 SAT

He would need a lot of merit$ for us to afford it, but we’re keeping the options open. Haven’t visited yet, so that will also be key

how is merit aid determined? Do you mind sharing stats?

I am not 100% sure, I’ve heard they focus on just GPA and ACT, but that is just from other parent posts. Her stats are good but not off the charts crazy good. She has 4.04 W/28 ACT which we did submit, because although it was on the lower end of their middle 50%, when we ran the NPC with and without test score, it always gave us more money with it. When we ran it with ACT, we were coming up with $29k, so the $33k felt like a gift.

We weren’t sure how the $5k ED money they were offering would impact their merit calculations (would they offer less since they were throwing in the extra ED $$) - but it didn’t. I give DU credit for offering this - it was a deciding factor for us. Brings the COA very close to our state school.
Last year their ED admit rate was something like 32% so we were a bit nervous. The $5k ED merit is for all four years too, so as long as they stay in good academic standing, it’s a generous addition. I know DU has ED2 so keep that in mind if you are considering it - she switched from EA to ED1 after she visited.
