Does anybody know how tough the admissions are for US students? The Edinburgh Freshman Year Abroad site makes it sound like the glamor safety of all time for anybody with over 1200 and a couple of AP's. Knowing that it's a good school and a hot school this doesn't seem right to me.

Edinburg is very good, 10th in the UK I think you would have a very tough time getting in.....its MUCH easier to get into a gd uni in the US than in any other country...

Edinburgh has actively recruited students from the US. While this doesn't necessarily make it easier to get into, they are at least aware of the curricula at American Highschools and are thus very qualified to make decisions regarding American highschool students.

i applied to the university of edinburgh earlier this year and got accepted within three weeks on an unconditional offer. my stats are a 3.6 gpa, with an sat of 2190 (780m, 750v, 660cr). i don't think it's too hard to get into if you're an american. the uk unis ask you to list your scores on ap and ib exams, and i think they take that into account too. i am doing full ib, so i think that helped my chances for admission. i think you should be fine, although i don't know about a 1200 on the sat. that seems a little low.
