Last year my son had a baseball game at 7 on notification day. We arranged to meet him at the field at 6 to be there when he checked. On the way to the field he texted us saying that he got in. It was about 5:30 or so.
I would suggest you all start checking around 5 and keep hitting refresh…
@erd1020 I agree with the plan to set low expectations. My feeling is that class rank trumps test scores, and a high 1300’s SAT is right in the middle of the accepted range last year.
@fladadK4Q It is not an algorithm that determines who gets in. There are a large number of objective and subjective considerations and it is ultimately a human-made decision. So, it is no wonder that we don’t fully understand the outcomes of the process.
@erd1020 I really think with your daughter’s rank and rigor she is totally safe. Unless she has terrible (or zero)EC’s and volunteer hours or wrote an awful essay, there is no reason she won’t get in. Especially being from a top feeder school. My friend’s daughter was top 6% of her class with a 1300 last year and got in for summer. Her highest math class was honors precalc! I tend to agree that there is usually a back story to the shocking stories we hear about the top students not getting in.
I think, and not to jinx myself, Florida is less competitive entrance wise than it’s rank shows. It’s obviously a tremendous school - but it’s also insanely large vs. most similarly ranked so they have to reach deeper.
While I feel horrible for anyone who could not take the ACT or more than once, I do believe it will help those who submit a 28+ and certainly a 30+ if their GPA is 3.75 UW or more.
Then again, all of us playing admission counselor is fun and entertaining but those that actually make the decisions will let us know in 9 short days.
I agree - if you look at it compared to a UNC or UVA, it’s a lot different (esp OOS). I see it as more on par with UGA, which I think is under-ranked and neck and neck with UF. Just my two cents.
UGA EA this year was brutal. I got deferred with a 4.0 UW and 1420 SAT, and I wasn’t close to the highest stat person deferred.
@CollegeBoundBrit the big difference will be that UF did not go test optional. Georgia going TO is an entirely different ball game.
I think another factor there was it was the first year on the common app, which made it a double wammy. I do think UGA will continue to move up the ranks - the honors college there is fabulous, as is the Double Dawgs program.
Yeah that’s a very good point
Regardless of the reasons why, that is astonishing that with a 4.0 UW GPA and a 1420 you were deferred at UGA. Now, we are all a little more terrified
Just posted today…
Definitely agree with y’all. Florida is a good school, but definitely not as competitive as this discussion post is making it seem. Yes, their ranking is high and there may be some people who have very high stats and don’t get in, but those people are outliers and honestly, that happens with just about every school.
Everyone in my school’s graduating class who had above a 3.3 and had test scores that fell between UF’s median got in. A lot of y’all should be fine.
I’d be curious in the demographics of your school. Location, class size, public or private, etc…
We are a public school, not going to release location, but I will say our school offers over 40 IB and AP courses and I do believe we are a “feeder school”. Class size was about 750-800, however, I would say less than 40% of the graduating class applied. We have access to college counselors as well as test prep. There is also an abundance of extra curriculars for students to get involved in. This public school is well-funded.
@agirlri, I would have a hard time believing that an abundance of kids with unweighted GPAs of 3.3 are getting in. The recalculated GPA middle 50% is 4.4 to 4.6. According to the common data set 81% of admitted FTIC were in the top 10% of their class and 98% in the top 25%. I know at my D’s school there is no way you could get there with a 3.3 GPA.
Perhaps the fact it’s a “Feeder school?”
wow that’s unfortunate that your school doesn’t have people getting in with 3.3s. Anyways, UF is put on such a high pedestal, not denying it’s not a good school, just not as prestigious as it seems.
UF’s average UW GPA is 3.8 so you’re school is definitely the anomaly. That’s very impressive!
So where did you end up going to college?
