Hi, I am a senior in high school in New Mexico. I have a 3.61 weighted Florida GPA. I have a 23 Act score and a 24 Superscored. I ran track in 9, 10,11 and am a member of beta club. I am also a Girl Scout. I have 120 hours of community service. I go to a very competitive high school and have taken all honors courses and 2 dual-enrollment. I declared Criminology and applied for the summer term. Do I have a chance of getting accepted to U of Florida or FSU?
FSU isnt out of the question but UF is
I figured UF was a reach. I am re-taking the Act this month.
Will applying in the summer improve my chances?
For FSU applying to fall gets you considered for both so it makes much more sense to apply for fall.
If you’re interested in FSU, you also may want to take a look at UCF and USF. Both are just a step or two below FSU in selectivity.
At USF, if you can get your ACT score up to 25+, you would also qualify for a merit scholarship (up to $6K a year). OOS tuition is also relatively low at USF, at about $17K a year.

Thank you for the info. I have looked at UCF and USF but I would rather attend FSU because they are suppose to have an excellent criminology program. I am also a Seminole lover
Don’t forget, you can always transfer to FSU from another school, if you don’t get accepted as a Freshman!

Follow up on transferring…
A popular option for in-state kids, is moving to Tallahassee and attending the local CC, which is one of the best in the state and then transferring to FSU. The state of Florida has a strong CC to state university system, and TCC sends a lot of kids to FSU.
Out of state tuition would be about $12K a year.
It’s also a popular choice with UF, with kids moving to Gainesville and attending Santa Fee CC.
Both of these CC’s have special programs to facilitate transferring students to FSU or UF.

Thank you very much for the info. I will definetly look into that. I am taking the Act again this Saturday so we will see how that goes. I forgot to add that my ELA score is a 23 and writing is an 8 if that makes a difference for admission.
