University of Florida Chances

Hello!

I am a rising senior from CT who is hoping to go down south for college. Right now, my first choice is UF. I am also looking into UGA and Clemson. What are my chances at these schools with these stats?

GPA: 3.72
SAT Superscore: 1950 (630 R, 640 M, 680 W)
ACT: Have not taken yet
AP Scores: US History - 4
Dual Enrollment: Took UConn Early College Experience Biology and received a B-
Rigor: One of the most difficult loads available in my school (all but 1 class were taken as “honors” or AP when available)
EC’s: leadership roles in many clubs (President of Tri-M Music Honor Society, Co-President of Spanish Club, Publicist for Student Council, Secretary of Drama Club, Opinion Editor for Newspaper, and Yearbook Editor), involved in NHS and Spanish Honor Society, cheerleading, HOBY alumna, and went on school trip to New Orleans for Habitat for Humanity over spring break.
Recommendations: Guessing and hoping they will be great
Intended Major: Public Relations or Communications with concentration in Public Relations

Thank you for your input!

You’re a match for UF, you have the grades/test scores and ECs. UF’s holistic admissions can seem a bit random at times…

However, UF may not offer a merit scholarships, so you’ll may need to pay full OOS tuition ($28.5K a year).

You’re a match for Clemson, and they are much more likely to offer a merit scholarship.

You’re a match at UGA.

Good Luck!

@Gator88NE Thank you for the input! I am not too concerned about Clemson or UGA. However, I am a bit nervous about UF because their OOS percentage is quite low.

Not to be negative , but Clemson is becoming much more selective than they used to be . They had a record number of applicants last year with a rather huge wait list. There is an interesting wait list thread from last year. Also , if you need merit you may want to check deadlines on their website( I believe it’s Dec 15) and last but not least, Clemson’s housing is based on application date, not when you accept . Application went live yesterday and they are not on the common ap.

Don’t worry about the low OOS percentage, that’s being driven by a combination of UF’s OOS tuition rate and the small number of OOS merit scholarships it offers. The acceptance rate for in-state students is around 48%, while OOS is around 43%.

I will be sure to check out that thread. I’ve noticed selectivity increasing at Clemson. However, there are 3 students who just graduated from my high school (a small public school in CT) who will me attending Clemson in the fall. All of their credentials were similar to mine, so I will try to remain optimistic lol. I wish Clemson was on the common app :-/ thank you for the information!

Fun with numbers!

From the 2014-2015 Clemson Common Data Set:

http://www.clemson.edu/oirweb1/fb/factBook/PastCDS.html

Number of Freshman Applicants: 20,755
Number Accepted: 10,967 (53% Acceptance rate)
Number Enrolled: 3,470 (32% yield rate)

Number offered to be placed on the waiting list: 2,418
Number accepting a spot on the waiting list: 895
Number admitted off the waiting list: 10

@livlev98 Go ahead and complete your app soon. My son completed his in about 30 minutes. There is no required essay, so it’s one of the easier applications. I wish you the best of luck. Again, just trying to be helpful , not negative. Have you visited Clemson? It’s a great campus . We live about 45 minutes from there. Lots of school spirit . I think a lot of OOS students are starting to recognize it’s potential . If you’re into rankings , it was just ranked 20 in USNWR for national public universities.
