University of Florida Decisions Class of 2022

The florida schools are unpredictable. I was accepted to UMiami, Ohio State, and Pitt, but FSU placed me into their seminole pathways program. UF is a tossup

Wow. Unpredictable is right. I think they are ALL trying to raise their bar (test scores, GPA, class rank or something else). The problem seems to be that each school will vary. Those are all really solid schools.

good vibes your way, too! :slight_smile: It will all work out in the end. Just kind of tough right now.

Unfortunately I am afraid that the historical data we relied on to judge my kids chances at UF (we thought 50/50) is going to be worthless and obsolete when the numbers come out about this crop of kids. I base that on what I see at FSU where my son got in but surprisingly to us just missed the Freshman Scholarship by one ACT point. In prior years he might have been considered an honors student at FSU, but this year just a regular Fall admit, which we aren’t complaining about at all. Just seems like the market dynamics with basically every high school kid in the state applying due in part to the Bright Futures deal makes these schools admissions requirements go higher and higher. That bubble will have to burst one day or UF will be competing for the same kids as the Ivy’s at some point.

@CrazyDad9,

Well said. That bubble will have to burst is correct. Let’s put it in perspective. UF is a VERY good state school in general. But the numbers needed for acceptance seem to exceed that for many of its competition. It does seem to be little over-inflated now.

We’re IN! Stunned. But deferred at USF. Right.

Nomad4 how did you get into UF but not USF!!! That’s crazy…

@Nomad4 @clahde I’m in the same boat. Accepted to UF Innovation Academy, deferred by UCF for weeks now.

Hi…I heard once that sometimes when schools don’t have a chance to go through all of the early applications they end up deferring people that they can’t really get to properly before the notification deadline. I don’t know if it’s true but seems like there are a lot of deferrals to some of the other Florida schools.

Congrats to everyone that got in!

Any idea what it is like at U of Florida if you are from out of state? I thought I heard it can be tough because most kids are from Florida.

Son accepted. OOS (MD). 4.37 weighted GPA, 31 ACT, 1330 SAT. 6 APs all honors. Great EC and working through high school. Solid essay. Visited UF twice (if that matters).

I cannot explain it at all. All I know is our decision has been made much easier now. Best of luck to all. This is so unpredictable.

D got in to UF tonight, but there was no mention of major. Has anyone else recently accepted been told if they got their chosen major?

UF has an out of state Living and Learning community (LLC) to help out of state freshmen make the transition. They live in Broward Hall. I really don’t think being out of state is a bigger deal than being from across the state or anywhere else that isn’t local. It isn’t like people from the Panhandle know anything about people from Miami.

Anyway, the huge numbers of applicants (starting at FSU and now seems like UF) are really affecting admittance rates. People who definitely would be accepted in other years are either getting denied or put into PACE.

Just wanted to remind admitted students to get your housing deposit in right away if you didn’t do it already. Even if you are not sure you will be attending. Housing gets really tight and choices are limited if you wait. My son waited a bit and it worked out for him, but other freshman had a much harder time getting the Residence hall they wanted. I was a bit more prepared with my D.

@Nomad4 Congratulations!!! My son also got into UF today. We were actually pretty surprised. Will come down to Ohio State or UF for my son. I thought he would be all UF after today, but I think he was so convinced he wasn’t getting in that he started picturing himself at Ohio. It all needs to sink this weekend and then I hope he looks at the weather channel and makes the right decision :slight_smile:

In Summer B. Also in at Mich, Case, FSU, UCF…UF best ROI so far as FL resident with bright futures

Daughter was accepted to summer B. We were surprised based on other friends with higher gpas and test scores not being accepted. She was also accepted for with scholarships to Auburn Alabama and USF and with just bright futures to FSU. Stetson offered her almost a full ride but she’s not interested. Now it’s time to start making decisions!

@collegemomjam

We lived in FL for years but are now out of state. I wouldn’t worry about a high % of in-state students. Florida is a true “melting pot”. Basically, a large % of people that moved there from somewhere else. VERY easy to meld into the culture…

@beach1234

I keep having to constantly remind myself that it’s generally not the whole school that’s important but the program one wants to study. I mean, UCF has a “world class” hospitality management program–Harvard does not. Extreme example, but just a reminder to us to stay focused on the chosen major…

Thanks, @Nomad4. And I completely agree, that the program of study is a very important thing to consider. I also think there is a bit of a trend towards the pre-professional programs, business schools, engineering schools, etc. And there are some schools that are better at one program than another.
