University of Florida Excess Credits and Scholarships

Hi,

I’m a college junior in Florida, and I’ve been studying to get the national merit scholarship on this year’s PSAT(on the practice tests I’ve been taking, I’m consistently scoring around 1490, so I think I should be able to qualify for national merit).

I’m interested in going to college in-state, especially since there’s the Benacquisto Scholarship for national merit students. Today I came across a policy of excess credit, where UF, or any FL school for that matter, will charge me extra if I take over 110% of the credits required for my major.

I was wondering, does this mean that I won’t be able to minor in anything or do a double major without incurring huge fees? Or is this fee only designed for those who are only doing a single major? Will the Benacquisto Scholarship allow me to pursue a minor or even a double major in college?

Thanks for the help

You’re a college junior?

Oh whoops, I meant high school junior @BelknapPoint

Email the folks at Benacquisto, and ask them. They will be able to explain their policy to you.

Or try asking in the UF forum. Someone there might have personal experience with that scholarship.
