It's "futbal", right?

I don't think there is about to be an appreciable change in ranking at all. "Relieve overcrowding" is a code word for getting the student-faculty ratio down. At 21-1 Florida is so far out of step with the schools it would like to be compared to that there is just too much ground to be made up.
What has held back the University of Florida's prestige is the political decision, made by most public universities, to expand to meet its state's needs rather than become more selective.
The 1997 USN&WR lists an undergraduate enrollment of 26,553, and a 25-75 percentile SAT range of 1220-1380, 51% acceptance rate.
The 2007 USN&WR lists an undergraduate enrollment of 31,950, and a 25-75 percentile SAT range of 1160-1360, 57% acceptance rate.
I'm not saying that expansion was a good decision or a bad one. Just that it is one that doesn't improve ranking.
By the way, I am a Gator alum.

Richmond really screwed the pooch on this one. Student quality fell significantly.

I like FSU's decision to curtail freshman enrollment to keep quality up.

UCF is rapidly catching up to FSU? I guess dropping to the 4th tier is part of a great master plan to catch up to FSU. FSU dropped in the rankings a few years ago, but in the last two years it has started a positive trend. USF still has a long way to go before it's considered equal to FSU. UCF should be worrying about keeping up with USF, not FSU.

Man.. what I wouldn't do for some 4k a year tuition.....

^Ah. Some perspective.

USF is really going to blow the doors off of UCF now. Also it's going to take at least a couple decades for UCF & USF to catch up with FSU, if at all.

Whenever Florida school pop up, theres always a huge debate. its pretty comical :)

The debates are heated because we are experiencing explosive growth in our State University System. This is unlike the slow moving Mid-Western Flagship Schools that have a pretty determined system already in place. It's really hard to pinpoint exactly how it will unfold in Florida.

They really should raise the tuition in Florida. Ohio's in-state publics have $10,000/year price tags, and they have similar reputations. Why should FL students get such a better deal?

Because Florida wants them to get a good deal and prioritizes the accessibility of higher education...? No need for jealousy!

If UF and FSU where stocks, I'd be Long in both.
