University of Florida MBA Report

With a madian GMAT score of 690, the University of Florida MBA possesses some of the brightest and most accomplished students among all top MBA programs. The UF-MBA Brand has been rising swiftly in the world of MBA rankings and Reputations.

Before you start flaming me, let me nip you in the bud. YES, I know UF isn't Harvard. OK, with that out of the way...

University of Florida MBA Programs

Gators are looking unstoppable this year.

Alabama might have a better team this year…and of course, FSU can make its season with a win, they have some great athletes. If and this is a HUGE if, Florida can run the table and win the BCS, they have to be considered among the best teams ever. Of course, Superman leaves this after this season…

Roll tide!

Bama v. FLA… it’s gonna be a dandy.

GO GATORS- Bama = GatorBait!

I’d have a hard time thinking of a better UG than Florida if you want to go somewhere fun that’s also a good school.

As far as an MBA goes though, I’d be concerned about the low starting pay coming out of Florida ($84,990).

thing is, the Gators have built up so much goodwill with the voters that even if they lose to Bama (provided that its not a lopsided loss – i.e. a last minute victory by Bama), they could conceivably end up in the BCS Championship game in a re-match.

They would need a Texas loss to Nebraska for that to happen though.

Let’s face it, no one wants to see TCU or Cincinnati in the title game.

Its great if you live in FL… otherwise eh.

"As far as an MBA goes though, I’d be concerned about the low starting pay coming out of Florida ($84,990). "

80+% of the graduates stay in Florida where salaries are just low. If you were to adjust the salary to the Northeast, this salaey is equivalent to over 100,000. It’s all relative, and the rankings are just wrong for not adjusting and standardizing salary numbers.

Can you get into Wall street with it?

Only 30% of Harvard MBA’s go directly to Wall Street:

Taking out the “top 15”% of elite school students from the equation, then adjusting salary for regional differences, UF MBA’s fair excellent compared to the elite schools.

So, if you want to be a gator and go the sexy, Finance route, then the [MS Finance - Finance, Insurance & Real Estate - Warrington College of Business Administration](<a href=“Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Department | UF Warrington”>Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Department | UF Warrington) would be a better choice. The GMAT for that program is roughly the same as the MBA

Class 2008 2009 2010* 2011*
Graduates 34 20 30 12
Average GMAT 663 662 668 709
GMAT 700+ 9 6 10 9

But the work experience requirement is lax.

“The Gator Finance Professionals Network
In 2007, the MSF program and its friends, along with
UF Foundation members, began assembling a list of
UF alumni working in investment banking, buy side
asset management, corporate finance (raising capital
and arranging deals), sales and trading, venture capital,
hedge funds and asset management. In June 2008, the
first Gator Finance Professionals Network reception
was held in New York City with over seventy Wall St.
Gators in attendance. An update
was given on the Hough Masters
in Finance Program and the
electronic network, Gatorfin.com,
was introduced. Gatorfin.com is

ideas and mentor others.”

double post

Hey tom, thanks for the post. So are you suggesting that if you want to be Wall-street bound then the Florida Master Finance program is much more likely to get you in than the MBA? I’m still a bit unsure on that…isn’t MBA the generally sought-after degree on Wall Street? Plus if we want to have many boundaries open to us and not just necessarily Wall st. as it was a contemplation in the back of our minds (assuming you’re in, then later want to get out), wouldn’t the MBA be better for a sort of career change in virtually any field? They always say a Master of Finance won’t do much whereas the MBA is the door-opener; ironically however, at least in this post, does the MBA not open the door for Wall street?
Thanks.

From what I’ve read MBAs are more valuable than MSFs… Since I’m going for a MSF I’d love to be proven wrong though.

Obviously top 10 MBA is more valuable than MSF’s. The admissions is by far more strict, besides MIT and Princeton MSF’s.

hey guess what? in this thread there are more replies about football than there are about the MBA. not sure if that says anything about the program…

Can someone get to my previous post if he/she knows the answer possibly, gracias

Its possible to get to Wall Street from Florida. Its also possible to get there from the Southern University of Delaware.

While the street is still attainable, UF would not be the first place to go if that’s your goal.

What are students doing after they graduate there?
