I am considering applying to University of Florida as one of my safeties next year. I thought that I was quite qualified, but I just found out they only accept 3% of students from out of state!

I live in Hong Kong, but am an American citizen.

SAT: 2160 (660 CR, 710 M, 790 W)
GPA: not calculated at our school (British system)
Class Rank: Top 10%

Good extracurriculars focused on my passion.
I will spend quite a bit of time on the application essays for all the schools I am applying to.

I do think I would be in the upper band of applicants overall, but would the out of state/international status make it very hard for me to be admitted? Should I be looking at a different safety? Of course, UF is not any old safety; although I have reach schools I would prefer over UF, I still chose UF as a safety because I believe it will be a great experience.
