I'm extremely interested in going to university of Florida. However, I am out of state and heard several different things about their admissions. I have heard they would prefer students out of state because they pay more, or that they are like UNC and are very particular about the out of state students. Any advice or thoughts? Thank you ahead of time.

UNC is better than UF in my opinion. I’m from FL so.

But anyways, remember UF is a public school, where a LARGE percentage of students will come from in-state. OOS kids will all compete for a relatively small percentage of the class. They won’t just accept you because they know you’ll have to pay. I’m sure you’re a capable candidate, but such an idea is not (always) true.

If you call UF 10 times, 10 different admissions reps. will tell you that residency does NOT, does NOT, affect admissions AT ALL. The only reason they ask on the application is for scholarship purposes. You have heard wrong because they don’t take residency into account when determining admissions.

UF doesn’t have any sort of “cap” on OOS admissions. I’ll say this once, and one time only, the ONLY reason UF has such a large in-state percentage is because so many In-state students apply. It’s no surprise that UF has such a low OOS vs. instate, less OOS apply.

Also: I am from NC. I agree that UNC (Chapel Hill) does look better on a job application. However, I’m going to attend UF because of the location and it’d be free (florida pre-paid).
