University of Florida Social Scene

My daughter is very interested in attending the University of Florida. Aside from the important reasons for attending college, she is also interested in knowing what the social scene is like. Greek life seems to have its place at UF, like all big schools, but the greek system does not seem to dominate the scene. Obviously, there are a lot of clubs. But does anyone have any real-world, front line intel on what the social scene is like at UF? (Can’t believe I am posting this as a parent). Thanks in advance.

Football is pretty big and takes up a lot of those 8 weekends in the Fall. Well, they play the Georgia game up in Jacksonville, but a lot of students head there.

I went to UF in the Stone Age, so I’m not of much help with the current scene. It’s a college town, though - there’s always plenty to do. I went to some frat parties and yeah, it’s a part of the activities, but you can also never walk by frat row and then you wouldn’t know it existed.
Football is the only thing happening on Saturdays, when it’s a home game. All the bars/clubs revolve around the game.
My professors had a regular Friday evening hangout at the Orange and Brew pub on campus (it was grad school). The Reitz student union has a ton of things to do: bowling, pool etc.
Other than that, there are usual town things.
Beaches, and Jacksonville, are only about an hour away.
