Hey guys, surprised no one has a thread for this yet. Just found out that I got accepted to SSTP today, but i was wondering wether it is worth it to go. I don’t really know how prestigious it is to get in. It is also a paid program so im not sure if it really prestigious to colleges.
If any one has any info or input please let me know.
@Pbobby I just got an acceptance email. Each year my school sends a few students to the program and my teachers recommended I apply. I know one graduate who went to Duke, a couple who ended up at Georgia Tech, and another who went to Harvard (she attended SSTP after her sophomore year, but this was around 10 years ago). I’ve also read it’s pretty much guaranteed admission to UF for those involved.
The only test score I submitted with my application was a 223 PSAT (80/73/70) and I probably had pretty favorable teacher recs. A sample size n=1 won’t tell us much about the selectivity, anyone else care to share scores?
I haven’t heard anything about financial aid yet either, I’ll ask about it this weekend. Scholarships seemed pretty limited, I think it would be wise to start independent fundraising if UF is unable to meet need.
I know that the scholarships are very limited (only 10 full ones and 10 partial ones). I don’t know how many people were accepted, but I doubt that many of us will receive one. :((
Can UF give out partial scholarships even if we applied for a full one? Will having applied for a full scholarship hurt my chances of receiving ANY financial aid?
PS is anybody in the IB program? I’m wondering how possible it would be to do this program along with the Extended Essay and all of the other summer work/reading assignments we have…
I also applied but haven’t heard back yet (one of my recs only got there a few days ago).
The impression I’ve gotten is that SSTP isn’t one of those paid programs that is just there to take your money (and in reality, $4,200 isn’t crazy for 7 weeks). MIT lists it as a competitive summer program here: http://mitadmissions.org/apply/prepare/summer . Just the fact that it’s listed along with programs like Garcia and Clark shows that it’s a good program. Personally, if I get in I’m really going to try to make it happen financially because the program sounds really cool and is comparatively affordable when looking at other summer programs.
@Girlsworld - FL Resident here, looks like a lotta people this year are from in-state. If you aren’t from FL, I know you’ll love it here–there’s no better time to visit than the summer. @809687465243 - Yep I’m in IB, the summer work/EE should be doable with SSTP as the schedule includes a fair amount of free time, but I guess the amount of work you get done depends on your individual work ethic (personally, mine is terrible so I’ll probably hate myself for putting things off until end of summer).
