University of Florida vs Emory University for Pre-Med?

If you can make the financials make sense, Emory is a great school. However, we always have a few kids at our local HS decline Emory and choose UF (or FSU/UCF/USF), simply based on cost.

For 2015-2016, the top 5 institutions supplying undergraduate applicants to U.S. Medical Schools:

UF: 802
UT-Austin: 783
U-Michigan: 782
(the above does not consider acceptance rates, only number of applicants)

If you haven’t already, you may also want to consider some of your other in-state options. FSU, UCF, USF, all have med schools (which helps with EC’s) and generate a fairly large number of med school applicants.

They also are much more likely than UF to offer merit scholarships, honor programs, and very competitive, accelerated med school programs.

First-time in college (FTIC) USF students who have been admitted to the Honors College, meet initial eligibility criteria for the 7-Year Track, and are interested in attending medical school have an opportunity to receive admission to USF’s Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) and complete a medical degree in seven years, provided that the student continues to meet all the benchmarks of the program, including a successful interview with MCOM.

The first three years of study will be completed at the Honors College at USF and the fourth year will be completed at the Morsani College of Medicine. A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) will be conferred following successful completion of undergraduate requirements (typically after the fourth year of study). Students applying for this accelerated program will complete a major in Biomedical Sciences (BMS). The Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) will be conferred after the successful completion of the medical program.

Honors College academic advisors will provide oversight of the student’s progress in meeting Honors requirements and will coordinate overall completion of the first three years of the program. The Morsani College of Medicine will provide oversight of the 4-year medical school curricular components of the program.
