University of Florida vs. University of Pittsburgh

Hello, I’m a high school senior graduating this May. I have been accepted to both University of Pittsburgh School of Arts and Sciences and University of Florida biology.
I am OOS for both and cost wise they are very comparable. I also got into the honors programs for both schools.

I am planning to study biology on a pre-med track and going to medical school, so I’m wondering which school has better academics and resources for pre-med students.

Pitt has a very good medical school and UMPC is right on campus. It also has a more urban location, which makes me think there might be a wider variety of opportunities. Also in general I prefer urban.

UF also has a hospital on campus (Shands Hospital) and is higher ranked than Pitt. It also has the Medical Honors Program which would let me apply to their College of Medicine as a sophomore and accelerate my undergraduate degree, though this program is open to students from any college. I’ve also heard a lot of good things about research opportunities there. I’m not too sure about the location, though; since Gainesville is more of a small town I’m worried that there won’t be as many opportunities or things to do.

I am torn between these two and really need any guidance on which do you think will better prepare me to get into a good medical school. Specifically which would be easier in terms of getting research or physician shadowing opportunities. Which has better academics and pre-med guidance. Any info on grade deflation at either school would help.

Both of these options seem amazing and really looking for additional input at this point.

Pitt seems like the better choice especially if you enjoy an urban location.

Pitt campus is great , right in the city, I think the the Pitt medical school is rated higher than Fla’s

yes UF is ranked higher but that’s based on ranking metrics- Pitt has an equally good reputation, especially in your fields of interest. Since you want an urban environment, go with Pitt. very happy students and easy access to an underrated city.

Both schools will do a fine job preparing you for med school. Pick the school that’s the best fit for you.

Keep in mind that it’s hard to get into either medical school. When you graduate, you will end up applying to several. You may end up going to undergraduate school at one university and then med school at a second.
