University of Florida

Im heading down for a visit soon but I have some questions. Is Gainesville a good college town? Is the University of Florida becoming even more prestigious? How tough is it to get into? Do most people who attend like the school?

“Is Gainesville a good college town?”

Gainesville is constantly rated as one of the best college towns in the country. Just Google “Best College Town Gainesville” and check out the results.

“Is the University of Florida becoming even more prestigious?”

Prestige is hard to measure. UF is ranked as one of the top 20 Public Universities in the US. It’s attempting to make it into the top 10. In the U.S. News rankings, it’s tied with Penn State, and it’s ahead of UT-Austin and Ohio State University. See the following link for facts and rankings.

“How tough is it to get into?”

UF has become more selective as the state population has grown. UF’s combination of solid academics, low tuition/cost and Bright Future scholarships has increased the number (and quality) of students applying to the University

The middle 50 percent of students admitted to the 2014 fall freshman class had the following criteria:

•High School GPA of 4.1-4.5
•SAT 1810-2060
•ACT 27-31

“Do most people who attend like the school?”

UF has fairly high freshman retention rates (96%) and graduation rates (87% in 6 years). Only a small subset of students leave UF before graduating. You may want to check out the graduation survey.

<a href=“Graduation Survey”>http://www.ir.ufl.edu/graduation_survey/

Question 29(Q29) ask the student to “rate your overall satisfaction with your university experience at UF”.

Looking at the Sprint 2014 survey:

Response/# of Responses/% of all Responses
Very dissatisfied 165 / 2%
Dissatisfied 107 / 1%
Somewhat dissatisfied 252 / 3%
Somewhat satisfied 934 /11%
Satisfied 3,728 / 43%
Very satisfied 3,411 / 40%
Total Responses 8,597 100%

94% of survey respondents are “Satisfied” with UF.

Good Luck and GO GATORS! :)

Thanks so much! @Gator88NE‌

When you say GPA 4.1-4.5 are you talking about weighted?

And do you think id have a shot with a 3.6 unweighted. 4.2 Weighted. 30 ACT and a whole lot of extra curric. community service hours and work experience?

@dman44 UF weights honors classes +.5 and AP classes +1 :)

Sure, your GPA and ACT are a match, but with holistic admissions there is a higher than normal level of uncertainty. :-?
