University of Florida is my dream school. Unfortunately I am an out of stater (Pennsylvania) and I know how low (3%) the oos acceptance rate is I have a 3.89 unweighted but like 4.5 weighted GPA, i have only taken honors classes throughout all of highschool, ending most semesters with all A’s and one B. I took 3 APs this year and will probably take 4 next. I am on a leadership board, won an award for a community service project, counselor at camp, 4- years of a sport, and am decently involved in my community. I don’t have a good sense of my SAT score as i have never truthfully prepared. I was wondering what score I should aim for, given my other criteria too, if i want a decently good chance at getting into the school. Thank You!!!
***any tips for acceptance would be great
UF average is like 1960
UF’s OOS acceptance rate is around 42% to 44%, only a few % points lower than in-state rates. I’m not sure where the 3% comes from, about 6% of the undergraduate class are OOS (another 5% are international), but the low rate of OOS students is likely due to cost (paying the $28K+ a year OOS tuition). The acceptance rate is a bit higher for those that apply for the Summer B term vs the fall term.
Your GPA is great (and UF puts much more weight on GPA than test scores for admissions), here is the 2014 Freshman profile:
UF wants to increase OOS enrollment, so they are in the process of hiring more regional recruiters throughout the country.
Other than GPA and Test scores, keep in mind that UF uses holistic admissions. About 50% is based on GPA (most important), Class Rigor, Essay and Test Scores (least important). The essay is important, so spend some time on it.
The other 50% is based on EC’s, Leadership, volunteering, work experience, etc. Keep up your good work this summer and I’m sure you have a great chance at UF.
