Is it hard to get accepted into University of Florida? It’s my dream school right now but I feel like it’s getting harder and harder to get in. I don’t have a very competitive GPA (3.5) but I got a 31 on the ACT and I have a solid list of extra curriculars (3 years of Varsity sports, multiple community service clubs, volunteer at hospital and church for 2 years+, and more). What’s really bringing down my GPA is Freshman and Sophomore year, I slacked off a lot and so it’s bringing down my cumulative GPA. I’m a military child so we move around alot, my parents are planning on retiring in Florida, but I heard it’s harder for out of state students to get accepted as well. Is there a good chance of me getting in if I have a non competitive GPA but good ACT score and extra cirriculars?
Most likely not - 95% have 3.75+
^ I find that fairly hard to believe. Maybe a 3.75 UF recalculated gpa if anything.
UF puts a lot of weight on GPA and it uses holistic admissions. If your (UF weighted) GPA is below a 4.1, then you’re depending a lot on the holistic factors, which no one, outside of admissions, really understands enough to give you an educated guess on admissions.
Good Luck!
I agree with the other repliers, but I also think that your ACT score and extracurricular activities will help your application. What exactly is your GPA? Having an exact number might allow us to help you better.
As someone who has applied to UF–awaiting acceptance, I made it into the preliminaries at least–and is surrounded by varying groups of friends who have been accepted/rejected into UF, it is a gamble. My one friend got accepted into UF with a–brace yourself–2.8 GPA. This is a FACT. No alumni, substandard ECs(NHS, swam a few years, did a club, worked a few months), and a half-decent essay. Another friend got rejected with a 3.8 (unweighted) GPA, copious ECs and a 32 ACT while another got accepted with a 20 ACT and a 3.5 GPA, numerous ECs. I’m yet to capture the kind of student UF seeks–it is difficult to latch onto the motive. Their guidelines reap prestige but their admissions are all over the map. Thing is, you only ever hear about the 4.0s and 1800 SAT/32 ACT. My advice is to write a killer essay; flaunt your creative ability. It could save you.
These were almost my stats exactly as a freshman (3.5 unweighted GPA, 5.9 weighted, 31 ACT, tons of extracurriculars lots of leadership) and I was not admitted to the traditional campus program but was admitted to the PaCE program (chose not to attend).
I’m a senior and UF is my first choice as well. I am an African American female with a:
UW: 3.56
W: 5.4
I’ve ran track and field for 4 years and I’m the school record holder for the sprints.
I’ve been in 5 active clubs and I’m the VP for 1 club and I’m the track team captain. My SAT and ACT scores are fairly low however, I have a 1660 (I’m still waiting on the results of the most recent one). I’ve had over 200 hours of volunteer service including working on the military base and worked at the YMCA during the summer. I’m really really nervous, I hope I get in
A little late in reply but, yes, it is possible. I was accepted into UF about 5 hours ago with a 3.5 Weighted GPA and a 20 ACT composite. Just depends on your essay and stats.
@smitleee Congrats on your acceptance but i think OP is talking about Freshman admission if you got in 5 hours ago im assuming you got in as a transfer. In that case they only look at your college gpa. A 3.5 is a pretty good college gpa.
Anyways, to answer OP’s question if that 3.5 is UW then he/she looks to be a match for UF.
