I have noticed since taking over as co-treasurer at our church that a lot of people don’t pay much attention to the reports. Most of the questions I get from the deacons would involve anything that was in the miscellaneous expense category so I have started footnoting an explanation for anything that winds up in that category. Mostly they want to know account balances and if we are on target with the budget. Of course it has always been a volunteer position so I guess expectations are not that high. In the last few years it has been split into 2 positions, one that handles day to day transactions and one that tracks individual contributions and prepares reports. The woman I replaced resignedj(after speaking with the pastor) right before news was released that she was under investigation for embezzelment during her years as county administrator. She is now in prison, apparently our church had better procedures in place than our county.
