I'm trying to decide between University of Hawaii at Manoa and Cal State Long Beach.

University of Hawaii
Tier 3 School :(
Smaller school
Weather/ Location
WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange Program)
Expensive flight tickets
More majors I want

CSULB
Somewhat closer to home = cheaper flight tickets
One major I want
More internship opportunities for my major in LA
Major commuter school
Not many people in dorms (which I will stay in)

Any feedback/comments are helpful! Thank you!!

This is a hard one. If you’re looking for work experience and internships, I’d have to imagine being in the LA area would be beneficial. I’d also imagine the novelty of being in Hawaii would wear off pretty fast.

Honestly if I were you I’d probably go to Santa Monica College (or some other community college in California that’s in an area you like) and then transfer somewhere.

CSULB has become much more competitive in the last few years=considered a good solid choice. It ranks with SDSU and Cal Poly as some of the most difficult CSUs to get accepted.

Have you visited U of H? It is kind of run down and as you stated, a tier 3 school.

If you are in the CSU system and complete your GE at CSULB, you may have good luck transferring to another CSU (not a UC)if you don’t like LB.

CSULB is the crown jewel of the CSU system and was the only non UC school allowed to offer doctoral programs (in Education). There were even rumors that it was considered to be changed into a UC. I would go there.
