University of Houston - Commuter school? Opinions please!

University of Houston is smack in the middle of a major metropolitan area, which lends itself to being a commuter school. Many students go home at the end of the day and on weekends. But many students live on campus as well. Can we get opinions from current and former UH students on their experience at the school regarding the commuter reputation? It would be helpful to anyone considering attending UH.

I am interested in some perspective on this as well. My D is considering it for music and we are out of state. I asked when we visited and was told 6000 kids live on campus. There were also plenty of kids on campus and at the bowling alley on Saturday night. We were there at the end of january. Would love to know what others think,. .

I lived on campus three years. It was a great experience because most were from out of state. With 6-8K on campus now, the majority are probably in-state students but probably not in the Honors College. Since so many are from outside of the Houston metroplex, it is not a suitcase U and many are around on weekends and during minor holidays. The train goes by campus and allows residents to explore Houston without a car. Go Coogs!
