University of Houston - Honors Biomedical Sciences - Fall 2018

Has anyone received a response from UH - Honors Biomedical Sciences program?

The results are out now. Did you get in? They have orientation on I think 26th of April.

I got in to the HBS program!
Has anyone else gotten into HBS and are planning to pursure this major in Fall 2018?

Yes, my DD got into this program. Did you attend yesterday’s scholar day event?

Yes, my daughter was accepted into the HBS at UH.

However, she received a Terry Foundation full-ride scholarship to Sam Houston State University and will participate in the Honors Program and Biomedical Science major there in Fall 2018.

University seems to have a bias admission committee

Exactly what bias does you think the admission committee has?

@dragonslayer11 , can you elaborate a bit, please?

Can anyone who got into the program release their stats? I am applying and I want to see if I would be a competitive applicant?

I would not recommend this program for several reasons : poor advising, no academic support outside classroom, professors will tell you in the class that they do not like to teach but have to and they would be more happy if they had to do only research. One of the interviewing faculty told my son that they intentionally give lower letter grade to students, if they deserve A, they give B and so on. The tests are made super hard intentionally with 40% of material not covered in the class. HBS program is intentionally made harder and that does not help the students with their GPA., when you are competing to get in Med schools. If you are top 10 in the program when being accepted which is a conditional acceptance to UTMB or MvGovern or you are part of HPA program with acceptance to Baylor, go for it. You still have to do well on MCAT. if you are not one of those students with conditional acceptance, do not do HBS at UH. Do a different major with pre med focus and earn a decent GPA with good MCAT. This program is directionless and harms more than it helps. We learnt this lesson hard way.

Yes, we have noticed that during interview process. All students do not get 2 interview calls, only few did. When pointed out after having discussed with students who had 2 calls, with the secretary, it was blamed on glitches and emails started coming in. To get in top 10 in program, you have to have your network of knowing doctors in the area.
