University of Illinois vs University of Minnesota vs Purdue vs University of Iowa for ChemE

Hi all!

I’m currently considering these four schools for a chemical engineering degree. I live in Illinois, but that makes the prices for colleges roughly equal (30k, Purdue is 40k). I’ve heard that all the schools have really good programs, and that I can’t really go wrong with any of them, but I still can’t decide because they all have good advantages:

-Illinois: Really good engineering in general, probably good for employment (I might do some sort of consulting or finance, not really real engineering after college), so the name factor is there

-Minnesota: Really, really good chemical engineering program, awesome place to go to college (location wise)

-Purdue: Also really good engineering program, but more expensive

-Iowa: Just really nice, idk

I really like my options, (leaning between Illinois and Minnesota) but I want to make sure I make the right choice. Can anyone who goes to these schools, especially chemical engineers, share their insights, experiences, things of that nature?

Thanks!

I’d like to add that I’d like to work in energy, (probably oil and gas) out of college, so that might be useful in some insights

How are you coming up with the “really good”?

The best schools among the list of schools you mentioned for Chemical Engineering are UIUC & UMTC. Since you are Illinois resident and if you get into both schools pick UIUC if the money is a factor or else pick UMTC as it has a great location too.

I’d go to UIUC

@nagintapls‌ why do you say that?

@ronpauljones‌ Out of all the universities you listed, UIUC easily has the best engineering program and best recruiting from all the big name companies.
