University of Iowa campus??

Hello everyone, i haven't been to Iowa City or the University of Iowa and i was wondering if anyone has been to the campus and had any thoughts?

Thank you!

It’s fairly compact for a school of 20k students. On one side of the river is the Pentacrest, the original campus, and surrounding buildings in which the vast majority of undergrad classes are held. A handful of dorms are within 15 walk of this area. Across the river are additional dorms and the health care/hospital side of campus. This is walking campus, from what I can tell, with only a few bikes and no scooters in sight.

In my opinion, it’s attractive but not jaw-droppingly so. It’s clean and tidy and the river running through is a nice visual point of interest. There are paths along it for running, walking, etc.

Adjacent to campus is the “campustown” area of Iowa City which has a very funky, Madison-esque feel, with ethnic restaurants, record stores, bars, boutiques, etc. I very much like this as I think it’s important for a campus to blend into town. Beyond this area is the real Iowa City and Coralville, which make up a modest sized town of limited interest. Interestingly, Outside Magazine did call out Iowa City as a Best City to live in within the last couple years as there’s a fair amt of outdoor recreation nearby.

I’m just a parent that’s been there a couple times and offer my observations because there isn’t a ton of traffic on this forum. Hopefully you’ll get some good first-hand observations.

Thanks for your reply!..does anyone have anything more to say about the campus?

also does anyone know about Iowa’s political science and pre-law programs?

^
I second that question along with economics.

Well I’ve been accepted into Iowa with scholarships which I’m highly considering the school but not sold on attending I’m still waiting to hear from other universities etc… but I think the campus is great and the city it’s in. Perhaps if your considering liberal arts like me a hall you should consider is Curriser ( I think its spelled like that).

it is called courrier

Which is the best residence hall at universtiy of Iowa?

^
I think that may depend on your interest of majors and what you prefer. Like myself, I plan to study economics and political science. If I attend Iowa I so far prefer Curriser due to its location near the center of campus and Iowa City.

iowa is good. but not good at beating northwestern at the football:(

Downtown Iowa City is fantastic. Think summertime concerts, walking mall, food vendors, kids playing in the fountain, people talking, sitting, generally enjoying themselves. The mall is right there for clothes- no need for busing. Loved my 9 years there during grad school/med school.

I’m not sure where I will be attending next fall, but Iowa is a high possibility. I was reviewing Iowa’s website and question on why does it seem like everything on east campus is very limited to freshmen. I definately would prefer east campus so I could have easy access to downtown Iowa City etc… without the hassle of crossing the river 24’7.

Does anyone know why the University of Iowa was not video on collegeclicktv website? Just curious, as it would have been a great way to get a insider view of the school.

coolbreeze – Was wondering the same thing, but there are other videos available on you tube, etc.

BTW, I just visited the campus for the first time with my D and the description earlier in this thread seemed very accurate…seems like a great campus and a great place to spend 4+ years. In my opinion, the campus is nicer than the impression I had from the Iowa web site, and the people were very friendly. School spirit seems great.

I really liked the way the town and campus seem as one, and that the airport is nearby.

Oh thats sounds just great. I wish I could visit the campus, especially knowing how much the school is growing on me. Would be interested in knowing more discriptions.
