University of Iowa Presidential Scholarship

I applied for Iowa’s presidential scholarship a while back and just received an email today telling me that my application has moved on to the next round. The email was semi vague, and merely stated that they would keep in touch. Does anyone know around how many applicants are typically chosen to move onto this next round? And also how many applicants there were at large? I’m just trying to see how many people I am up against at this point to see what my chances are. I’ve been struggling to find this information online.

My D18 also applied. I agree there isn’t alot of information online, but I did speak with an admissions counselor the other day. She said that the scholarship committee will be making their decision in early February.

@madalyno24 I would imagine there are maybe 80-100 semi-finalists, but that is based on pure speculation. We will be visiting next week and we hope to find out more information. Are you also admitted to the honors college? I wonder how much emphasis they place on test scores, GPA, etc.

Given recent news about huge budget cuts to the University of Iowa, we are concerned about the presidential scholarship being on the chopping block, especially for OOS students like my daughter.

I just spoke to an admissions counselor and he said that those who are denied will be sent an email and we will not get any information from them until it is confirmed that we have the scholarship. good luck everyone!

We got email yesterday that my daughter made it to final stage. It said less than 10% of applicants make it this far. Not sure how many apply but I saw mentioned somewhere that “hundreds” apply. So maybe 100 or less make it this far? Also said decision in mid-feb

Congrats @sugra99! That’s wonderful news:) Sadly, my daughter was notified that she wouldn’t be moving to the final round, but Iowa remains one of her top choices. Best of luck!

My daughter is a sophomore and she received hers in February. She also received the email invite into the Honors College, which she had to accept to be enrolled. We LOVE University of Iowa and are so thankful she is there.

Does anyone know when additional scholarshis may be offered to incoming freshman? Son received Old Gold, but, has not heard if there are any other scholarships coming his way. When do they let students know? Thanks!

@Nonhover Our incoming freshman son received his financial aid and scholarship award letter in the mail this week… He applied on the U of IA scholarship online portal back in December. In addition to Old Gold scholarship, he received a scholarship from the School of Engineering on the award letter. It was automatically given to him just from filling out information on the portal page. I could be wrong, but that should be all you have to do.

@Nonhover My daughter received her scholarship information earlier this fall and it also appears on her Iowa portal. On the scholarship portal, there was also the opportunity to view potential scholarships the student might be eligible for. The admissions staff at UI is super helpful so don’t hesitate to call them. Iowa has blown us away and is definitely one of my daughter’s top choices.

If you apply on the Portal, University of Iowa will award some scholarships without additional work. Unfortunately, the deadline for most was last Monday. If there are scholarships your child is eligible for, but needs to do more for (generally write an essay and provide a reference) there will be a link button on the portal that shows possible eligibility. Iowa is very generous with merit-based scholarships, and Presidents and Old Gold are given based on specific criteria/cut scores, and renewable for all four years, provided they maintain a 3.3 or 3.0 respectively. Presidents application time has passed. My daughter is a Second Year Junior due to AP credits, and LOVES University of Iowa. She was offered scholarships to all of the Big Tens, including Iowa, and is very happy to be there. Good luck in your decision-making!

Son was notified of finalist status about 3 weeks ago. Any finalists heard decisions yet?

has anyone heard back yet? the website says that decisions will be made by march 1st?
