My son has been accepted to the undergraduate program at University of Iowa and Purdue, Fall 2017. I have heard a lot about UI’s excellent CW program, however I’m wondering whether if the undergraduate program is as strong as the graduate program. We are from California, so any info will be greatly appreciated. Also, I’m curious about the undergraduate program at Purdue. He has been accepted there as well. Thanks in advance!
I don’t know but i don’t think you can go wrong with Iowa, it is the place where writers dream of going.
Thanks CorpusChristi. Being from California, we know very little about UI. It was my son’s safety school, however it has climbed to one of his top choices. My main concern is whether the undergrad program is as good as the grad program. Thanks again.
Hi! I’m a current English and Creative Writing major at UI. The undergraduate program is awesome – they added this major in the fall (instead of just having the CW track within the English major) and they’re adding a publishing track next fall. Additionally, the UI has a lot of extracurriculars that involve CW/publishing/editing, so he can apply what he’s learning and further explore options. He can also submit his stories and/or any nonfiction work to the many magazines and newspapers at the university. They have career classes, great advisors (who keep us updated on internships/fellowships/any relevant opportunities), and a great environment overall (there’s readings in bookstores downtown and sometimes on campus). Hello Hereinca! My daughter will be attending U of I in the Fall of 2017 & is enrolled in the English & Creative Writing Program & Honors Program. We are from Colorado, but originally from CA. We customized our tour in the Fall 2016 by meeting with the director of the English department. The professors in the under graduate program are not going to be the same as in the graduate program, even with that said the program is very impressive. The campus or Iowa City (one in the same) is incredible. My daughter felt a real connection there. There is even research opportunities.
