University of Kentucky bs/md program

Has anyone applied to this program? How hard is it to get an interview/acceptance? Thanks!

With any BS/MD program, you are going to have killer stats. Not to be rude, I hate when everyone asks the same question, “How hard is it to get into an BS/MD”. It is obviously going to be really hard to get into, a 2350SAT and 4.0GPA w/ ec’s will most likely get you in. As I said not to be rude! But people must realize that it is HARD!

I know it is hard to get an acceptance. I was asking for the relative difficulty of this particular BS/MD when compared to others.

lol, is no one applying to this program??

I heard this program is not a guaranteed admission program to medical school. I am trying to look for existing students stats who got into med school from BSMD and with no luck. If somebody knows something pl post. Is it worth trying if there is no guarantee? Is it like any other bachelors programs?

If you see the so called Bs/MD programs, quite a number of schools have abandoned Bs/Md all together permanently. There are several resaons for this. Some of them are 1)the students who got accepted could not maintain a min of 3.5 GPa and hence got kicked out of the program 2) The students who maintained/obtained good GPa (>3.7) decided to go elsewhere. So, the schools are left with very few Bs/Md students continuing in the program, resulting is wasting of resources.

The program is not a guaranteed position. You still have to interview at the end of your second or third year and must have a minimum MCAT score as set by the university.

Our son got into BSMD program in University of Kentucky.
He got into regular bachelors in Case Western, Washington university at St.Louis, George Washington University in DC, etc
Not able to decide whether he should go to University of Kentucky for BSMD program or go to good bachelors program. His friends are going to real good schools for bachelors and if he goes to Univ of Kentucky it is regular state school. Money is not the criteria.
Not sure what is the good decision. If anybody can help?

What is the minimum required MCAT score? MCAT is changing in a couple of years.

The only advantage I see here is the savings of applying out to other med schools. It is recommended that you apply to more than 8 schools and the cost of applications and going to interviews can add up…plus the stress.

Does he even like the school? I think that should be the deciding factor since he pretty much has to do the same things all premeds at other schools have to do. I’m sure at theinterview they will be looking into his EC and dedication etc.
