I am a high school student who is planning to go to a one of these Colleges. I wonder what school has the best engineering program and what school is better in chemical engineering. please help me seems like every one in my school wants me to go to University of Kentucky.
@dsh7212 - I am a graduate of one of these schools, but business rather than engineering, so don’t want to pretend I am the best person to suggest one or the other for you. Here are some things to consider.
Some people give weight to rankings such as USNews. UK is ranked #87 in the country for engineering among schools where the highest degree is a doctorate. U of L is ranked #108. The graduate program at UK for chemical engineering is ranked #72 while U of L is not ranked.
UK is the flagship and you could make the case at least within the state of Kentucky that it is slightly more well thought of in terms of quality. Outside the state, I am not sure there is much difference in reputation.
Both schools are urban and located in the two largest cities in the state.
I would want to investigate the co-op opportunities at each school, as well as stats on employment for recent graduates. Find out the kinds of jobs recent grads are being placed in. If you were my child and considering both schools, I would give the most weight to this rather than rankings.
U of L has a unique program with UPS where you can get a lot of your school paid for if you work part time for UPS while you go to school. I believe it is called Metroversity or something like that. Check it out if it is of interest.
Good luck!
What a well thought out post, @LOUKYDAD. I would like to add that when schools are in the top 200, other factors, such as cost, distance, housing options, etc. should also be considered. Visiting both schools and getting a feel for the school is a good next step for any student trying to compare 2 schools. Good luck with your decision, @dsh7212.
